You can NOT rate this place on a Sunday morning. Go to ANY breakfast place on a Sunday and it's a zoo.
Food: LOVE IT. Been going here for 12 years now. BEST BLUEBERRY PANCAKES AND REAL SYRUP. They are so good and thick and unbelievably delicious. They have a killer Southwest breakfast quesadilla and their orange juice is always in-house, fresh-squeezed daily. You literally watch them make it. Prices are very fair. Two people average $17 - $20 (before tip). I love the coffee a LOT. Though I'm a huge fan of Kean. If you do not like coffee house type coffee, you may not care for it. But you can order Americanos, Lattes (their namesake) and cappuchinos too. Everything is always fresh and hot. They even have decent lunch/dinner meals, but if you are a breakfast foodie, this is the meal time they specialize in.
Staff: I'm not kidding, the same people have been there the entire 12 years. Every single one. They have an occasional extra young staffer here and there, but it's always the same five or so main staffers. They are not over the top friendly, but the place can get slammed and they move fast. I've never had to wait long once I've ordered. Yes, I've had to wait for a table, but people shuffle out fairly quickly.
Pet Friendly! Bring the dog(s) and dine outside. There are only four tables there though so you may have to wait if you don't come early (before 9:00 AM on weekends).
I love Latte Da and hope they'll be around for...
Read moreAnother stop on the road to find a “real" diner in Southern California. This is a quest my wife and I have been on for many years. It is a selfish quest, but a noble one. Well, I’m not sure in what way it is “noble" exactly.. Digression aside, we live right around the corner from here so one Saturday morning we went to try it out.
We shop at the Ralph's in this same shopping center, but we somehow had never noticed how busy Latte Da is on the weekends. Taking the long line as a good sign, we hunkered down to wait the wait.
The diners who were seated outside at the sidewalk tables all had dogs with them. That entertained my son for a while. Some people-watching and some polite convo with the other wait-ers passed the time quickly.
Seated. Coffee, coffee, o.j.. Drink. Wait. We ordered standard SoCal diner fare. I asked for refills on coffee. The refills came with the meals. The meals were goodly-portioned, the taste was goodly.
In the end I got only one refill on coffee as the server was quite busy. There was no friendly/fun server-diner banter as the server was much too busy.
Hire more servers?
And the prices seemed to be $2-$4 too high. I’m sure we will return to order bagels from their well-stocked bagel counter. Perhaps next time the server won’t be...
Read moreEdited Review (October 5): I originally gave this restaurant a 5 star review following my first visit, however I had such a poor experience during my latest visit that I’m forced to update my review. I have left a copy of the original review below. I visited Latte Da a week after my 1st visit with a party of 3. We ordered the chicken parmesan, the calzone, and the spaghetti and meatballs. All of the food was absolutely disgusting, nobody in my group liked their meals. We even sampled each other’s food and came to the same consensus that the food was awful. We didn’t even want the leftovers, and they went straight into the trash. I’m not sure what was going on that evening because the quality was night and day from my first visit. If you decide to eat here, you may have a great experience or you may have the worst dinner of your life, it’s a gamble. I hope you’re feeling lucky. I nor anyone else in my family will ever return to this establishment.
Original Review: I had a really great Italian dinner experience. I ordered the lasagna which is discounted if you go on Wednesday night with the cannoli for dessert and both were excellent. I've been living next to Latte Da for 15 years and I wish I had...
