Let's begin with the level of waitstaff professionalism. First, let me say that our waiter was kind faced and polite, but has no real training in waiting on people. We were given lunch menus, but then told we could not order lunch. We asked for a recommendation on the menu and he immediately went for the most expensive item, but had no accurate description of the suggested plate. I will assume it was due to price rather than flavor or techniques. Our waiter also did not have the finesse of making sure we had plates on the table when we were delivered our appetizer which was nachos on the appetizer menu. We paid $15 for three tablespoons of guacamole and six, 2 1/2 to 3 in chips made like mini tostadas. Seemed very pricey in my opinion for nachos. The salsa that is delivered to your table, complimentary, was extremely full of chili powder. This salsa is definitely not a fresh diced up salsa. We had a 5-year-old with us, who ordered a chicken and cheese quesadilla; however, when it was delivered, the plate was full plate of rice and beans with a half tortilla full chicken and cheese but not cut up like quesadillas are. The quesadilla was rather slimy and hot as if it were steamed. She wouldn't eat it,nor could she handle it with her hands. There needs to be a note here that the atmosphere is wonderful, the decor is crisp and clean, there is a bar that looks stocked with your tequila and margarita fixins, and the music is lively, even if it was a little bit too loud for such a small place in my opinion. It certainly was not the worst part of our visit. My plate was chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce, jalapeno drizzle, rice and beans. It is my go-to for any Mexican food restaurant as is the salsa. I feel that if they can't get salsa and chips correct or something as simple as sour cream enchiladas, the rest of it is probably pretty sad. That being said, the sour cream sauce was sweet and nothing on my plate was overly flavorful. The chicken was not shredded or chopped in the tortilla, the corn tortilla was not cooked, and the spinach that I had them add to my enchilada, at $2.50, was overcooked. That brings me to the second plate of a young woman that was with me, who ordered the taco salad in a flour tortilla shell. At least a third of the top rim of her taco shell was burned, there was very little lettuce on her salad part, and there were huge chunks of green bell pepper that were overcooked underneath the lettuce. I'm not quite sure what meat was called steak at this point, but it was extremely gristly with no texture and did not taste like steak. We had to return her food. They did as a good measure take that food off of our extremely high receipt for lunch. The gentleman the gentleman who suggested this place, had chicken quesadillas and they were just fine. They were on a very large tortilla folded filled and cut like usual. Our lunch was tallied at almost $70. I will not recommend this place and Hope that they will update their cook and train their wait staff. It's a shame in my opinion because I was really looking forward to a really nice Mexican food restaurant. I will not stopping Anna, but will continue to go to McKinney and visit San Miguel's Mexican Grill. Cantina line could do good by visiting San Miguel for a lesson in what service and quality food looks like and...
Read morePros: -Chips and salsa are good! The refill on these is pretty quick. -Margaritas and tacos are tasty! Cons: -Happy hours does not exist on Saturday, despite what the hostess excitedly informs you. Please also disregard all the fun drinks she rambles off that are $3.50 until 6pm...they are infact $10. -The small margarita is $10. It is NOT worth the price. But if you think it is happy hour, $3.50 seems like a decent deal. -The kitchen staff must be very understaffed. We waited roughly an hour for our entrees after placing our order. -Food was cold when it finally arrived to our table. -My husband ordered steak faitijas, and most of the steak was fat. His side rice was also a dusting of rice over a hard taco shell. -Food portions are very small for the price. -There isn't a kids' menu. However, my child ordered an adult sized meal and finished about 90% of his food. Again, food portions are small and pricy. If you are a child who likes to pay adult prices, you shouldn't have a problem. -Lastly, and also most importantly, if the staff makes a mistake, they will not honor their word or try to make it right. As I mentioned above, there is no happy hour on Saturday. When we asked about this when the check arrived, the waitress said that's only during the week. She made no attempt to correct their mistake or offer a credit for a following visit. She also didn't inform her manager or the hostess that guests are incorrectly being informed of happy hour. Which means others are also being informed of this. This was proven when we overheard another table question the charges on their check.
Based on all the cons, we will not be back. I also encourage others to visit a cute place on 380 in McKinney or the restaurant on the other side of White in Anna. These places offer excellent service and prices.
We try to be fair and understanding as our jobs are client facing. What we experienced at this restaurant is the poorest customer experience a business can offer. So, please save your time and money. You'll be...
Read moreMoving back from Japan and having to deal with restaurants in the US is challenging.
The food was outstanding with the exception of two items. The chips tasted rather stale. As if the oil was not changed out. Salsa. You get either mild or you can ask for the other option which is very spicy. No in between. So your choices are an easy night on the toilet or a very bad one.
Server. In Japan we generally do not have servers. The ones we do have aren’t stressed to the point of PTSD (self diagnosed as it usually is) over a Dr. Pepper. Our server seemed unorganized and memory retention not a thing. We got extra drinks, salsa was very late. The other enjoyable aspect about Japan is we get to eat in peace without anyone asking us every 5 minutes “how’s everything?” It’s supremely intrusive and rude. In a situation where we need the attention of a server it’s on us to get their attention.
Americans are loud, noisy and for whatever reason by DNA coding or God thought it would be funny, the women laugh and clap like seals at sea world at any little joke the guys tell. No matter how terrible it is. Half of our dining experience was being subjected to a gaggle of people who couldn’t talk like normal human beings (that weren’t released from solitary confinement) without laughing (mouth open, food spraying all over every one in front of them), women clapping and doing the seal bark and kids who appear never were told that they are better seen not heard. And that encounter, to quote General Maximus from Gladiator, echoes through eternity. The whole restaurant could hear every word from this bunch. We were basically part of their family and I have no idea who they are. I got messages from other countries telling me they can hear this bunch.
In other words, invest in a soundproof room or tell them the noise level is too high. Everyone that is there wants to have a good time for themselves and not be dragged into someone else’s good time.
All in all,...
