Let me start by saying, I absolutely love the food here, and is not the reason for my 3 star review. The service is generally good, but occasionally misses the mark. It is my recent experience the day before Thanksgiving that lowers my rating, and to be perfectly honest as I'm writing this review, I'm tempted still to lower the rating. I've been in the service industry for 20 years. I have NEVER turned away customers prior to our posted closing times. I may have begrudgingly taken the guests, but never to their notice. I may have even cussed them a little once I got into the kitchen, but again, never turned them away. On the night before Thanksgiving, even though we looked online to see if the restaurant was opened and it was posted on the door that the closing time was 9:30, at 9:04 we walked into the restaurant. To the left of us the hostess was seated in the booth on her phone and ignored us for several minutes before finally rolling her eyes and getting up to go to the kitchen without so much as a greeting. After waiting for probably closer to 10 minutes at this point to be seated and catching some sideways looks from the kitchen staff, an employee comes out to tell us that the kitchen closes at 9 daily and we would not be seated, but rather needed to find somewhere else to eat. Sadly, this experience has left a very poor taste in my mouth about one of my favorite restaurants. Disappointed at minimum. It is my recommendation, that if you closer your kitchen at 9pm then you should adjust your hours accordingly. It makes no sense to me to close your kitchen a half hour before the doors, and would appear to me this was simply employees trying to go home early. I was not the only disappointed patron. My boyfriend observed a woman who was turned away as I used the restroom, as well as a gentleman and his companion while we were getting in the car to go. Both of which were able to walk into the restaurant, but ultimately told that they wouldn't be able to dine in because although the dining room was open, the kitchen was closed. I imagine, by the look of disbelief on their faces, they were as equally disheartened as we were. It was almost enough to discourage us from returning at all. It is the food, Jamie's Favorite to be precise, that has earned my loyalty. Lastly, if I might make one last suggestion, please use degreaser on the floors in the dining room near the kitchen. I almost fall every time I walk to the bathroom. If it were not for using caution as I walk because I know how slippery the are, I most certainly would have injured myself and possibly others. This is borderline negligent it is...
Read moreMy friend and I dined at Salsa for lunch and left absolutely irritated. We have both waited tables and understand how much that job sucks. We also understand that item quality and service are two separate issues.
Our server was rude when she greeted us. She only came to the table unprompted (we set things on the edge when we were finished and looked at her to get her attention) one or two times. She was snippy when we sent back a quesadilla and quite literally walked off as we were attempting to speak to her and order dessert.
The item quality was its own problem. We ordered a queso and it came to the table watery and almost cold. It had no flavor and tasted like it was milk and white cheese. We then ordered a brisket quesadilla that was soaked in oil/grease. We attempted to eat some of it but it was dripping onto the appetizer plates. The rest of the quesadilla was sitting in pools of oil/grease. We spoke with the server and informed her that we found it almost inedible and asked that she have it removed from our tab which she did. We appreciate that.
My friend ordered a few drinks and there were issues with the quality of those as well. The frozen flight she ordered came to the table already melting. She then ordered a margarita on the rocks with flavoring. The server clarified not once but twice what she wanted on the rim and then proceeded to bring the wrong thing. When the drink came to the table, it was basically just straight tequila. You could not taste the flavoring and the taste of alcohol was overwhelming. It was disappointing.
The dessert was good, but overall the visit was just incredibly aggravating. We will not be returning, which is disappointing because we believe in supporting smaller businesses. We have previously dined at this restaurant multiple times and formed relationships with two separate waitresses who were both very kind. The food always has and always will be subpar but this experience has put us off permanently. Poor food and poor service are separate issues, but this was...
Read moreI love this restaurant a lot, one of my favorite places in Anna to come too. But my only criticism is this one server here at Salsa Tex-Mex. Since May of 2024, there is this one young gentleman, who usually works at the bar, has the worst attentiveness I’ve ever seen as a server. When I used to work as a server, I would always keep an eye on my tables, make sure drinks, chips and salsa is filled when empty, and other things that a server is expected to do. This young man will talk with other servers, not paying attention to customers. He will start to wash glasses at the bar sink and completely not acknowledge customers. And when he does come to attend to you, you better tell him EVERYTHING you need because he will not come back to you for another half hour. As of writing this review, I ordered a simple burrito plate to go. It was about half an hour later till i received my food. I received my food at the time that I am mentioning this. I don’t blame the cooks, cause I’m sure they made it fast. But this server was up at the bar the entire time, talking to other servers, washing dishes, doing anything but attending to customers. A few weeks back, I came to visit and I came to a point where my chips and drink were empty. I then proceeded to just look at (almost like a stare) at this server in hopes that he would see that I would like him to attend to me to refill my food and drink. Twice he looked at me with eye contact, and did not do anything but continue to chat away with coworkers. I never would ever do anything like this to a server cause I know they’re busy with other tables/people and possibly doing side work. However, this individual has some of the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. All other servers here are great, just the gentleman working at the bar is the worst. So the overall 1 Star review isn’t really for the restaurant. As the very first thing I said, I love this place, and it is great. Just this server is the one thing that has been wanting me to turn away...
