We think Jack’s Fortune is one of the best Chinese restaurants around there are really not too many good Chinese restaurants anymore not like there used to be 20 or 30 years ago. I live in Northern Virginia I stopped going to Peking gourmet about a year and a half ago because it was just not as good as it had been 20 or 30 years ago and it’s gotten ridiculously pricey and I found that Jack’s Fortune had several several similar dishes that were significantly better quality and better tasting. I have a lot of family in the Annapolis area and we frequently meet there and everyone always wants to go.
I still think Jack’s fortune is one of the best Chinese restaurants left since so many have disappeared over the years to be replaced by Thai and Vietnamese restaurants that are equally as good or better. Unfortunately, the Annapolis area is a restaurant desert for someone who moves here from Northern Virginia, where there are so many choices in the Asian food arena and the choices are so far superior to anything in Annapolis. One thing lacking at Jack’s fortune is customer service. I was there last night with five other people we ordered everything on the menu we spent a fortune. One of the people asked for sweet and sour sauce for her crab Rangoon and they told her that she couldn’t have any. I got there early and ordered appetizers for the table, I ordered four eggrolls and asked him if they would mind cutting them in half and they told me they don’t do that, imagine that. I have one waiter waiting on the whole restaurant and three ladies walking around, serving tea that’s nothing more than hot iced tea. It’s not brewing at your table like a typical Chinese restaurant does one of the ladies had a Puss on her face look like she was mad at the world and asked her for something worse Jax fortune really needs to work on customer service , and they really need to work on having enough people working in there so that people can be accommodated the table next to us must’ve waited 15 minutes just to get a check. They have no dessert menu not even a little scoop of sherbet to clear your pallet when you leave, they don’t go the extra mile . I don’t think it matters as much to them because they’re the only show in town Annapolis. It’s like the test ground for the fast food industry. There’s crap everywhere and even the so-called good restaurants are mediocre at best. One other fact is that the handicap parking situation is not good at that shopping center parking is three rows away from the door of the restaurant ramp is at the end of the shopping center so that if you are handicap, you have to walk to the end of the sidewalk and then back again to get in the front door. This is a problem. My mother is a 101 years old. She’s probably healthier than most people reading this. She does need a ramp. She can’t jump over 6-7 inch curb. Back to the food it’s not terrible, but it’s not gonna win any prizes either, if you want good authentic Chinese food you have to go to New York City. Unless you want to...
Read moreJack’s is the Chinese restaurant every community needs. The food is always excellent, the service is friendly and efficient, and it is a great value given the quality of the cuisine. We always start with several appetizers, the shrimp toast, perfectly crisp with a tasty shrimp filling, the pan fried dumplings generously filled with pork that is deftly seasoned, and either spring rolls or egg rolls. Both of these items are crisp and their fillings plentiful and not an afterthought. Jack’s soups are a great, the hot and sour, won ton and egg drop are our favorites. It’s hard to pick a couple of entrees given all the excellent choices. On our most recent visit we had the General Tso’s Chicken and crispy beef. General Tao would be honored this dish was named after him. Perfectly good, most chicken, a crispy coating and flavorful sauce which is slightly sweet - not cloyingly so - and a nice touch of spice. The crispy beef was everything you love about this Chinese classic. The accompanying rice was perfectly cooked as was our pork fried rice which was generous with pork. Jack’s Fortune cares about every aspect of the meal, from the complimentary hot tea, the fine service, and the artistry of the hand crafted birds and decorative vegetables they place with the entrees. Recently, I had a business dinner at a new, very high end, Chinese restaurant in Washington, DC. Afterwards, a friend asked for my opinion of the restaurant and if I would return, my response was I would rather eat at Jack’s Fortune. True, Jack’s doesn’t have thumping techno music (EDM I think my kids call it…), inexplicably high prices, and imitation alligator menu covers. However, what it does have is delicious food made with heart, fantastic service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Jack keep up...
Read moreIt’s the holidays so of course everyone is gonna be busy. Could not get through on the phone for 30 mins turns out they just weren’t answering calls. Drove past and to my surprise they were open. Went inside to place a to-go order but first they were ready to seat us to dine in. Told the lady we wanted to place a to-go order and she says it’ll be 2 hours. I agreed and you should have seen how shocked she was. She wasn’t expecting me to be okay with the wait which alone told me something fishy was going on like them telling people this so they’ll go away. She looks around for a few seconds trying to figure out how to get out of taking our order and then tells me to hold on and walks away to the back. I already knew what was gonna happen, she was going to tell me they weren’t taking anymore orders. She proceeds to talk to another young lady up front and then appears a man who could be a manager and she tells him I want to place a to-go order and he says it’ll be three hours now. Surprise Surprise. One of the ladies then mumbled something real quick and he says “Oh we’re not taking anymore orders tonight.” Interesting. Very interesting. How can you be ready to seat me for dining in but now all of a sudden I can’t place a to-go order and before that the wait time increases by an hour. So what you’re telling me is I should’ve just sat at a table, ordered my food and then asked for a box? Cool. Great way to treat customers. Was very understanding and willing to wait since it is a holiday but the sneakiness just doesn’t sit well or feel good at all. Also how would people know when their order is ready since they aren’t using the phones there. Just be honest from the beginning and...
