Great reviews so I changed our groups plans in order to dine at Shika. I would be embarrassed by the end of dinner. We arrived at about 615 on Friday. We were the only table in the restaurant. I noticed a bunch of junk in the back making it unsightly. The place was dark and the interior in need of an update. The server was quite but generally attentive. Ordered spring rolls, dumplings, and shrimp tempura. The app prices were less then most so I wasn't expecting a large potion. The spring rolls were so narrow that all I tasted was fried dough. The dumplings were mushy and not firm. The tempura came with two shrimp and about six fried vegetables chunks. How can you go wrong? Dinner consisted of Teriyaki chicken, Teriyaki Steak, a couple of rolls, shrimp tempura roll, and deluxe sushi platter that two shared. The Teriyaki dishes were well cooked and tasty. The couple of rolls were equally good with adequate amount of fish. The deluxe sushi platter was a train wreck. I have never seen all Nigiri on a platter ever. A speciality roll accompanied and was so full of sauces it tasted like mush. I learned later the two eating the platter tried several pieces but didn't like them. I tried a red clam and had to spit it out. The squid was chewy and a fish I couldn't identify was "fishy". They served two "complementary" slivers of laughable pie for six people. There wasn't enough pie for six people. I will steer clear of this place with so many good places to get sushi...
Read moreWe ordered take out: Miso soup is very good; pork ramen is good, but confusing as a take out item; requested mild miso broth and received one container of mild and a second container of spicy (maybe they thought we should try both?) We tried the spicy and it was very tasty but a bit more kick than we like.
Sushi Bronzini was today’s special - very good. Black Knight sounded interesting - and it was excellent! Salmon roll and tuna roll (gotta try the basics right?) both were good. Unagi (grilled eel) is a personal favorite of mine. Eel cucumber roll and Eel avocado roll - both were excellent!
We also tried the Takoyaki - good flavor but we couldn’t finish it after all the sushi and ramen. They also gave us a little dessert; a Mocha Cheesecake ? - light coffee / cocoa flavor, a little sweet, with some chocolate sauce drizzled on top and a strawberry on the side; a perfect ending to a lovely meal.
Looking forward to visiting here again; hope they can open for dine-in soon. Sorry, we forgot to take pictures. Maybe we should go back for...
Read moreTraveling in, this was the perfect sushi restaurant stop. We went to dinner Sunday evening around 7pm and it was not crowded. We were greeted immediately by the staff and served with our drinks, appetizers, and food quickly. The staff were kind, attentive, and efficient. For appetizers, we got the Pepper Tuna Adventure (the one with radish and cilantro) and Sexy Jalapeno (has spicy mayo and eel sauce drizzled on top). The appetizers were absolutely mouth watering, flavorful, and dynamic. For the entrees, we got the Tiger Eyes Roll (the roll with one dot of spicy sauce on each sushi piece - hint the tiger eyes), Super Volcano Roll (roll in the middle of the circular plate), and another roll with jalapeno on top (I forgot the name). The rolls were made to perfection by the Itamae's (sushi chefs) and were very filling. The customer service was phenomenal from the waitresses, front desk, Itamae's, and manager. I would definitely recommend coming here for excellent sushi and fairly priced options. I will be coming...
