I was excited to find a south Indian vegetarian place in Appleton and I really wanted to like this place, but the experience turned out to be disappointing.
We were traveling over Labor day weekend and I must admit we were almost there closing time, so it's understandable that they were running out of different foods. It's okay to tell customers that the kitchen is almost out of stuff and to turn them back. What's not okay is to seat customers, take their orders and then say you are out (that's extra disappointing)
We got medhu vada (crisp on the outside, but the batter was still runny inside), dahi vada (delicious) and a variety of dosas (the andhra dosa was very good but the batter was very sour). The chutneys were good, but the sambar was so-so. Plus we were seated in the basement which was very cold and not very organized.
This place could be much much better - I would love to visit again and eat my words. As a vegetarian, I rarely have Indian vegetarian restaurants near me, so please improve and make...

Madras Café is an absolute gem! My family of three had a feast of South Indian favorites—Sambhar Vadai, Medu Vada, Bajji, Mysore Masala Dosa, Gobi Manchurian, Parotta Kuruma, and finished it off with their aromatic Filter Coffee.
Every dish was bursting with authentic flavor. The sambhar vadai and medu vada were crispy, fluffy, and soaked perfectly in flavorful sambhar. The bajji was light and delicious, just the right amount of crunch and spice. The Mysore masala dosa was a highlight—crispy, generously stuffed, and full of bold flavors. Gobi Manchurian added a nice Indo-Chinese twist to the meal, with that perfect balance of tang and spice. The parotta kuruma was pure comfort—flaky, soft parotta paired with a rich, hearty kuruma that was packed with flavor.
And the filter coffee? Simply divine. Strong, smooth, and wonderfully aromatic—just like you’d find in Chennai.
Great food, warm service, and an authentic South Indian experience. We can’t...
Read moreAn absolutely incredible experience! We have been craving good Indian food for a long time and Madra's Cafe did not disappoint! Excellent and wide range of vegetarian food, with plenty of vegan and gluten-free options (see the menu tab on Google for each dish's breakdown). We ordered a variety of dishes for take out and were blown away by how delicious everything was. The South and North Thali are a great way to try a little of everything. The samosas are freshly cooked and the assorted chutneys, the hot tomato one in particular, were the perfect pairing. The dosas were fantastic as recommended and came out quickly, but our favorite dish of the night by far was the gobi manchurian. Perfectly made cauliflower with a huge punch of spice and flavor, fans of hot wings will love this dish. We did not regret ordering from here and will look forward to the next time we do! Owner was super friendly and happy to explain each dish, thank you for such a great evening! Fantastic...
