The first time I went to Cheesesteak & Co it was Mid at best. Line was longer than a CVS receipt, and the cheesesteak just didn’t hit. But with all the hype, I felt like I might be missing something so I circled back to give them another shot! The Good: I rolled up after the lunch rush (about 1/p) and was in and out in ten minutes. I got a small cheesesteak with fried onions, ketchup, mayo, and sweet peppers on a regular roll (sesame seed rolls now available but only in large) — and let me tell you, it slapped. My friend from Jersey (who you would think would have a PhD in cheesesteaks) went rogue with pickles, onions, mayo, lettuce, and tomato. SN: Now, we ALL know that lettuce and tomato don't belong on Cheesesteaks... that's called a Steak & Cheese, but she was happy. And shout out to them for adding sesame rolls to the lineup — small flex, but appreciated. The Bad: It’s a 20-minute drive from my spot in Laurel, and by the time I got home, the roll had taken a turn. Soggy it was! Also, the place has like... one table. So unless you’re lucky, you’re eating in your car or posting up at home with a damp sandwich. Room for Improvement: Perhaps a larger space and maybe toss a couple more tables in there. That’s all I’m saying. The Verdict: If you’re nearby? Absolutely worth the stop. But am I driving 20 minutes just for this? Probably not — unless I’m already out and about or craving one bad. That said, this second visit? Way better than the first. Whether they upped their game or just weren’t slammed, I’m not mad. To Clarify....It’s not Philly good... but it’s pretty good. Give it a try — you might just be pleasantly surprised.

My visit to Cheesesteak & Co. was largely positive, delivering a genuinely great sandwich that knows its strengths. I ordered the Bacon Cheesesteak with onions and, on a whim, added pickles. The core of this sandwich is fantastic. The steak was nicely prepared, the bacon provided a welcome smoky crunch, and the onions offered the expected sweetness. But the real star here—and the only topping you truly need—is the Cooper Sharp cheese. Its creamy texture and uniquely sharp, salty flavor are the perfect complement to the meat. It melted beautifully, ensuring that every part of the roll was coated in rich, satisfying goodness. The sub, in its pure form, is absolutely top-tier. However, the addition of pickles was a misstep. While I usually love pickles, the vinegar and brine immediately disturbed the balance of the sandwich, clashing with the subtle, comforting flavor of the Cooper Sharp. This is definitely a spot where less is more; letting the quality of the meat and cheese shine is key. I recommend sticking to just the essentials, especially that fantastic cheese. Logistically, the experience was smooth. The store itself is a nice, small local spot, though it sits in a very crowded shopping center. Fortunately, I was able to find parking easily, and the order was ready in a quick 15 minutes. My verdict? Cheesesteak & Co. is excellent, provided you keep your toppings simple. Next time, I plan to order it without the pickles and try it on the seeded roll for an extra textural layer.

I live in the DC area but was born and raised in Philly so I know the standard for a decent cheesesteak. I drove 27 miles to visit Cheesesteak and Co. after hearing a few good reports. Well, I didn't know what to expect but after pulling into the parking lot, I found a fairly long line. The inside is extremely small. This is clearly a takeout restaurant having only 2 tables. After waiting about 15 minutes in line, I ordered a small cheesesteak with fried onions. The "small" is listed on the menu board as 12 ounces of meat. (The large has 16 ounces) I waited about 15 minutes when my number was called. I walked (hastily) to my car to see what awaited me inside that silver foil package. I unwrapped it and found a nicely stuffed cheesesteak with some chopped ribeye overflowing in the wrapper. Ok. So how was it? Well....it was pretty decent (BY PHILLY STANDARDS). As I said earlier, this sandwich was pretty hefty. The American cheese was creamy and properly incorporated in the chopped steak as was the diced (and properly fried) onion. My only issue was with the roll. The roll is a major part of any authentic cheesesteak, and Cheesesteak and Co. appears to use a Philly hogie roll. However, for some reason, the roll was a little too soft and became just a little soft or 'spongy' after a few minutes. The best places in Philly use a slightly heavier roll with some corn meal on the bottom, giving the cheesesteak a bit more chew. Don't get me wrong...this cheesesteak is VERY good by non-philly standards and anyone familiar with a 'proper' cheesesteak shouldn't be disappointed either. (Mine disappeared from the wrapper in minutes). The cost for my small was $11.99. The...
