NOT AUTHENTIC Texas BBQ. Although the decor is set up to make you think that, the server informed me the owners were from Wisconsin. That explains the addition of Wisconsin food items on the menu. No Texan would ever do that.
It was waaaay overpriced. I'm from New Braunfels Texas, and not even at Black's or Saltlick would I pay $25 for a two meat plate unless it was all you could eat or offered more than what was given here.
I knew what I was in for after finding out their chicken fried steak is not homemade. That's the true test of an authentic Texas restaurant, in my opinion. No self-respecting Texan would ever serve pre-made steaks... ever.
I chose the 2 meat plate instead, the brisket and chicken with potato salad and mac and cheese. The food came out ever so slightly warm, red flag. The brisket was good. You could tell it had been smoked at least 16 hours, like it should be, that's why you get 2 stars for food. The chicken was dry, it fell off the bone but was overcooked, I'm not sure what region that potato salad was from, but it isn't Texas. The mac and cheese was made of penne pasta and cheese sauce, super disappointing. It's really easy to make good proper mac and cheese, a short cut here was a big fail. Only 1 slice of bread for a two meat entrée? Really? Even the sweet tea had a funny taste. I switched over to Pepsi instead. I hate Pepsi.
The mild BBQ sauce was on point, the mustard sauce was good, but the Bubb's brand mop sauce was a vinegary mess. That's definitely not a Texas sauce. They say they've won awards for it, but I bet none came from Texas.
All in all, it was a disappointing experience. If you've been to Texas and have had authentic BBQ, you'll know that I'm being fair in my assessment. If you want to promote yourself as an authentic Texas barbecue restaurant, then I'm going to judge you as such. You can put up all the decorations you want but the proof is in the food.
As they say back home, you can put a dress on a pig and slap some lipstick on it, but a pig is...
Read moreBubb’s Grub is awesome! It’s been a regular go-to for my wife and me but I thought I should point out why. First of all, the service is phenomenal. We are treated like absolute royalty. It feels like being home all the servers (shout out to Cole and Delaney in particular, but really we get excellent service from every one of the servers like Steve and Louis!), all the managers, they’re all great. They anticipate our needs and they exceed our expectations and our expectations are pretty high in the first place. Just always a good time when we eat here.
Now, the food. Yes, the barbecue is excellent. The juicy brisket is indeed juicy and flavorful. The barbecue chicken is delicious delicious well seasoned and tender. But the steak is outstanding as well - really flavorful really tender, cooked to the temperature you asked for an absolutely delicious. And really a very reasonable price - don’t sleep on the steak.
Another dish you shouldn’t sleep on is the burger because it’s also great - very flavorful. And the french fries are crispy and hot. They’re the crinkle cut type and they’re really good.
The chili is also excellent and so are the tobacco onions. Those are an excellent appetizer or an accompaniment for certain dishes.
Wine list is pretty good as well
You can see why this is easily such a nice place to dine. And that’s why we...
Read moreI was looking for a Packer Bar to watch the Packer game. Found this gem of a spot. Not only is it a great place to watch the Packers or other NFL games but the food is phenomenal! I love to support a business where the owner(s) are actually working in their business. Watching the husband/wife combo here were actively working but yet taking the time to cheer on the Packers and interacting with their customers. Carter the bartender was awesome. He did a great job of making sure everyone was taken care of and made great conversation with his guests. The group I sat with all ordered different appetizers, so we shared orders of poppers, Wisconsin Cheese curds and onion rings. All were plentiful portions and good. Curds were great and onion rings were even better. Later during the second half, I ordered a main course. I couldn’t decide on two smoked proteins. So I went with the 3 meat (brisket, pulled pork and hot link). None of them disappointed. Honestly, they were all really really good. Probably the best hot link I’ve ever had. Definitely will go back for the Packer games but will definitely be back for the food. Btw they open 9:55 for early Packer games. Also found out they have daily specials. All you can eat special Wednesday night, Thanksgiving Thursdays, Friday night Fish Fry’s and Smoked Prime Rib on...
