Visited De La Cruz for lunch after a hike with two other people. We were seated right away, great atmosphere even though a lot of the lights on the strings were out/needed to be changed. After 15 min of waiting, we had to flag a waiter down because no one was coming over to us, then we ordered drinks and food at the same time. They apologized and told us they were busy when it clearly wasn’t (check out photos). We were also told everyone was new, that was not an acceptable excuse. There were people who got there after us, ordered after us and got their drinks and food before us. Finally got drinks, the margaritas we got were horrendous (in second photo). We were told there was no dedicated lunch bartender so the waiter made them and used the wrong ingredients. It was not something I was used to having. He did bring me a new one to try and it was made by someone else, it was acceptable. We were told we would be refilled with chips, we didn’t get another till 20 min later, chip bowls are also very tiny. After waiting longer, we were told our first plate was coming out and it was another 15 min till we got our food. We felt like we’re being ignored. The food on the other hand was good, props to the chef. The waiter apologized and used the excuse “they were understaffed” at the end. They used many excuses and they clearly were having issues. We were there for 2 whole hours. Probably won’t come back until service is improved.

My family and came in after the last day of the Renaissance fair. The host said we could have a table close to the front door or we could wait an hour for an outside table. We took the table inside. Our server finally took our drink orders and never mentioned it would take an hour and a half to get our food. 3 children and 4 adults we were starved, so I ordered an appetizer, guacamole with chips, server said we have no avocados left. I said could I please have more chips and salsa. 20 min later she finally brings them. We waited another hour and 10 min, just for her to say we still have to wait. My family and I said 10 min and we are leaving. Immediately food started coming out and it was cold and not the right order. We were so hungry we ate it. There was avocados because she brought to whole avocados and sliced them for one of the plates lol. Then we get the bill and the waitress had already added the gratuity of 22.00 extra to the bill!! We will never EVER come here again!!!! Worst MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN NORTHERN AMERICA HANDS DOWN!!! I HOPE AND 🙏 PRAY THEY HAVE CHANGED THEIR WAITRESSES AND THEIR ATTITUDES TOWARDS HUMAN BEINGS 🙏 I HOPE YOUR EXPERIENCE IS NOT LIKE OURS. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Authentic Mexican Cuisine with Exceptional ServiceReview: I recently had the pleasure of dining at de la Cruz Mexican restaurant in Gold Canyon, Arizona, and it was an experience worth sharing. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality by our waitress, Petee. She promptly attended to our table, offering complimentary chips and salsa, setting the tone for a delightful meal. Opting for salads, my client and I were pleasantly surprised by the freshness and vibrant flavors of our dishes. Each bite was a testament to the chef's dedication to quality ingredients and culinary expertise. Dining al fresco, we enjoyed the perfect weather while savoring every mouthful. What truly stood out was the efficiency of service; our food arrived promptly and was served with care. Petee's attentive and friendly demeanor enhanced our dining experience, making us feel welcomed and valued. Overall, I highly recommend de la Cruz Mexican restaurant to anyone seeking authentic Mexican cuisine served with exceptional hospitality. Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and visit this gem in Gold Canyon.

How do you rate A ZERO Star? The new manager made it clear to me tonight that he does not care about the opinions of the family community of Gold Canyon!! We had heard that the previous staff all walked out on the new manager and l understand why! We had also been informed by our friends that we would be disappointed with the food portions, service ( very slow and this is May. The place was virtually empty of customers-not even the Arizona Season for visitors) And, the prices were not as posted correctly on the invitation to "all day happy hour". It all started when l asked to have the shredded chicken and the verde chile mixed half and half in my chimichanga. The restaurant had always honored my request in previous years of serving us. Never a doubt, the old management always was accommodating and extremely friendly. After all, Gold Canyon folks are friendly and welcoming. ( but not this new management team- it is obvious they're all about the dollar not repeat locals who recommend visiting folks check out de la Cruz ) The portion sizes are only half of what they use to be. We have always had two heaping commercial servings of rice and beans, Now it is one of each. The menu says Monterey cheese on the enchiladas and it came with cheddar. When l questioned it the waitress explained they only had yellow cheese. (seems she might had told me that. I do not like yellow cheese! Now l have a stomach ache and I paid $15.00, sour cream is $1.00 extra) I tried to talk to the manager and Ya know what he said? He said, " l don't care and l will give you the $.50 back for the overcharge on the drink" . I explained that was not the point. I wanted him to know that the service, food portions and entrees weren't good anymore. Locals are making negative comments. He again told me that he did not care and that l had come at an off night. I tried to offer helpful information and he said he did not like my attitude. I reminded him that he does not know who l am, and he said again " l don't care! Goodnight " with a sarcastic thank you! Thus, l left. Disappointed that our community has lost a previously terrific place to take friends and visitors for a delightful experience in our small community. I will remark to everyone l come into contact with about this unfortunate event. I do thank those of you who might be reading this for taking your time to learn from my grief. I can only suggest that one might take your green money and go to Los Gringos Mexican Restaurant in AJ, after all, our friends have and now we...

Worst ever “service” First, we made reservations for party of 6 through the website. Arrive and the restaurant is busy; usually a good sign. However, we’re told the website isn’t updated and they’re not notified of reservation requests. That’s ridiculous. We waited for a table to open, maybe 15 minutes pretty good time for how busy they are. Soda, water served fairly timely, marguerita and beers take somewhat longer. Orders placed, nothing exceptional or unusual. Tacos, quesadilla, salad, tostada- nothing extraordinary. Nothing that Taco Bell can’t serve in 5 minutes After more than an hour, started to realize most everyone was served, finished and left the restaurant. Waitress comes out the third time ,checking on chips and beers. I mention that 80% of tables have eaten and left and we’re still waiting Waitress response is they got slammed. Ok, maybe true 90 minutes previous but that excuse does not cut it at this point After 1hr45 min we’re still not served nor is the food in the window. However a large to go order has been taken, cooked and bagged We notified the wait staff to comp the beers, cocktail and sodas and walked out. By the time we hit the sidewalk a waitress came running out to let us know our order had just come up - not 90seconds after we walk out. If they can magically plate 6 dinners in just 90 seconds, they could have served our party long before we walked out

These people are a total waste of your time. Avoid this terrible excuse of service at all costs

Good salsa, though

Quick update: restaurant responded to the review on FB… laughing emoji. Good to know how they care abt...

I can't believe any positive comments about this place. On arrival, we were promptly seated, and within a couple of minutes we were brought chips and salsa by a nice young man. Chips weren't any better than Tostitoes, and the salsa was nothing special, but so far so good anyway. We finished that bowl of chips and still didn't get offered a drink from our waitress. The nice young man brought more chips. We were seated for about 15 minutes before we asked the chips guy to please get our waitress. FINALLY she arrived, and we placed our drink and food order together to make sure we weren't overlooked again. 15 minutes later I got my bottle of Corona, and it was almost 10 minutes after that when our blended margarita came. Hardly blended at all, there were big chunks of ice cube still in it, and it was awful. I couldn't even place what it was too much of, or too little of, it was so bad. We've now been here 45 minutes so I decided to look up some reviews. REALLY sorry I didn't do that before we came here. From the time we got there it was almost exactly an hour before we got our food. The rice was cold and bland. The Chile Relleno Pollo was so salty I mixed it with the rice so I could choke them both down. I'm not sure what all the "soup" was in my plate. The bill came and it was over $42 for 1 beer, 1 margarita, and 2 mid-level entrees. That's about 20-25% more than high end Mexican restaurants like Hacienda De Rosa's. I didn't get our middle-aged waitress' name, but she needs to explore other career choices - and not in the...
