I had been to the previous location numerous times and always enjoyed the food but didn't like the small location so I was excited that they were moving into this larger spot.
We went on a Tuesday night and it was about 3/4 full. We had to wait quite a while to get seated. Then it took a long time to get our order taken. Once our waitress came to take our order, she kept having problems with her tablet so that made the whole process painfully long. Some of our party's dinners came with salads so those were brought out but we didn't have any silverware so we had to wait for that. Then realized one of them came with the wrong dressing so again, had to wait. The salads were nothing more than a bowl of lettuce. Most successful restaurants put a little more effort into their salads.
Since we were a party of 5 we had to sit back near one of the doors that went into the kitchen. Not only did the door bang annoyingly loud every time it was used, which was a lot, they had some loud thrash metal rock blaring out of the kitchen that I had to hear EVERY time the door was used.
For the most part I think every one in our party enjoyed the food. I had the catfish which I used to order at the old location because it was so good but that had been a couple of years ago. This time it was just okay, nothing special. With all the distractions, it wasn't until I got home that I realized neither my husband nor I got the cole slaw that was supposed to come with our order.
There were so many little things that went wrong that it just made the whole experience unpleasant. It looks like we still have to drive to Mesa to find a...
Read moreWe stayed at lost Dutchman state park and this was a close option for breakfast. It was also well rated so we opted to try it. Tucked away in a strip mall with little more than the word cafe above its doors- it had many table options open for our arrival. This seems like an off the beaten path place for locals to enjoy. A hidden gem if you will. The decor is nice- it’s modern and has photographs on the walls- local artists for display. They do also sell handmade soaps and lotions at the cash. They allow you to sample these by providing bars in the rest room. The tables are cool- They have advertisements built into the tops. Kind of a retro feel. The staff is friendly and easy going. The menu is pretty expansive with options for everyone. I tried the chicken burrito. Also shared blueberry danish French toast with my partner. He had the chicken fried steak. So the portions here are absolutely MASSIVE. the quality of food is pretty good too. I wouldn’t recorder the burrito- it was difficult to eat and needed to cut it apart which I felt defeated the purpose. The spice level was tolerable and tasty. I got through 3/4 of it before tapping out and rolling out the door. The French toast was an absolute ten on ten. So tasty. So amazing. You don’t even need to add syrup it’s good as it is. The blueberries are baked into the bread. I’m drooling thinking about it and writing this review. My partner loved his dish. The fried steak was perfectly crispy and tasted incredible. We would return, I’d just pick...
Read moreAs my review was deleted from our Gold Canyon community page:
I had lunch today at the Gold Canyon Café as I have had on many occasions. The meal was good, however when the bill came, at the bottom of the receipt it stated that if a credit card was to be used they would add a 3.5% surcharge onto the check. I was not aware of this upon entering the restaurant or ordering my food as it was not clearly posted. When the waitress came I stated I had some feedback regarding this and she promptly responded that they have been doing this for 3 months. This occasion was the first time I saw the fine print regarding their practice. The point of bringing this up was to pass along to management that consumers should be informed of this practice prior to ordering. The waitress then became defensive stating "Many places are doing this" and "I'm not going to argue with you." As she walked away in a sarcastic manner she stated "Have a nice day!" She cut me off and refused to listen to any feedback. I have never been treated in such a hostile, rude manner at any other establishment. Furthermore, this fee has been applied to my charges without my knowledge on the multiple occasions I have eaten there over the last 3 months. The point in sharing this to inform the community of this charge as it was not clear that this has been occurring. I also feel in a small community such as ours that we are not treated in such a rude manner at the businesses...
