“Shrimp Doc” – A Tale of Misplaced Crustacean Concern

When I first brought home Waylon, my pet shrimp, I had no idea how attached I’d get. He wasn’t just some aquarium decoration—he had flair. A little red firecracker with a side-eye that could make a goldfish rethink its life choices. He’d patrol the gravel like a tiny sheriff, keeping the tank in order, legs clicking like spurred boots. Naturally, I started calling him Sheriff Waylon.

One day, I noticed Waylon wasn’t his usual rowdy self. Instead of chasing bubbles or posturing dramatically on the filter, he was slumped behind the fake coral like he’d just read some bad news. I freaked out. Googled “shrimp vet near me” and up popped a spot called Shrimp Doc. Five stars. Great reviews. Said they specialized in crustaceans.

Bingo.

I called immediately.

“Hi, I’ve got a shrimp in distress.”

Long pause on the other end.

“…Sir, we’re a seafood restaurant.”

That’s when the slow wave of horror hit me. Shrimp Doc wasn’t a vet clinic. It was a restaurant. A trendy little joint with a logo of a smiling shrimp in a chef’s hat and a slogan: “Shrimp so fresh, they oughta have a doctor!”

I hung up, apologized to Waylon for almost getting him on a plate, and did some proper tank maintenance. Turns out he was just molting—needed a little privacy and some calcium. Within a few days, he was back to his old self, throwing pebbles at the snail and flexing like a tiny aquatic action hero.

I still went to Shrimp Doc the next weekend. Strictly solo. Had the grilled shrimp. It was phenomenal.

Listen Up I just left there!! Run to this place! Food was A1 and the flavors I had were the Hot Lemon Pepper shrimp and original fries 6 piece jumbo shrimp plate!! I had a butter sauce seasoned so good and matched the shrimp perfectly with seasoned fries! So good I finished it before I was up the road within 10 minutes. Food came out hot & fresh. Presentation of food in your plate makes you want to eat it ASAP! I was greeted with smiles and a hello when I entered the door. Family owned but a family friendly atmosphere. Nothing was salty but seasoned well that leaves you wanting to order another plate. I also got another meal today which was the grilled shrimp rice & vegetable plate for later. I know it going to be good. Please go there and getcha self a plate or two. Thanks to the beautiful young 🥰 lady upfront Dionna with great customer service & very knowledgeable about the menu (sorry if I said your name wrong).

Made it to shrimp doc after seeing it on TikTok. Here’s my honest review.

My order was 12 piece shrimp, half buffalo/ half original. My sister order was 12 piece shrimp, cool ranch/sour cream and onion/ Texas hot. My wife order was 12 piece shrimp, lemon pepper/original/buffalo.

Staff was friendly. Clean restaurant there was no wait to order. Staff does ask you to leave a review before receiving your order in order to get a percentage off your order.

Waited about 34 minutes for food. No one in there when we placed our order. Fries were partially cold. The shrimp is covered in a lot batter causing them to look bigger than what they really are. The buffalo shrimp was cold. Texas hot was wayyy too hot, couldn’t eat it. Original has no seasoning. The butter sauce is good though. Spent almost $60 dollars and not satisfied at all.
