Summary - Terrible sushi with not so fresh sashimi, and absolutely no flavor in the rice -- do they even know they have to use vinegar for sushi? Or even that they have to season the rice?
Came here with family for a Friday night dinner. I haven't had sushi in a while so I was ready, and had expectations for good sushi because of the good reviews here. We were greeted by a waitress who was a fellow Korean. We could tell it was a Korean owned Japanese restaurant.
We ordered the sushi/sashimi boat + tonkatsu meal. The tonkatsu wasn't anything spectacular and overcooked, and its meat didn't taste very tender. The sauce was overly empowering and didn't complement the dish and instead masked everything. Meh.
On to the main stuff the sushi and sashimi. Wow, did it taste bad. It was worse than the sushi lunch box thing you could get from super markets. The sashimi didn't taste fresh and the rice in the sushi had no flavor -- I don't think this chef knows how to make sushi rice. What a total disappointment.. I've moved to the area from NYC not too long ago so would have definitely enjoyed a good sushi place in the neighborhood.
Overall, the $100+ bill felt like we were being overcharged for terrible sushi, and was being cheated on -- like I could buy some raw sashimi from H mart and make better sushi than this. And I am never going to ever trust these google reviews again. My parents owned a sushi restaurant and so did my aunt and also lived in NY so I've had many occasions of eating decent to good sushi. I can honestly say this was by far the worst sushi I've had in MY life with no exaggeration.
With that said, I guess if you've never had good sushi/sashmi/rolls, and you enjoy the overly sauced fried rolls and stuff that's used to mask the lack of good cooking skills, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, I'd recommend...
Read moreMy wife love's beef and broccoli from anywhere. This place is close to home. I've tried their sushi several times unfortunately it's been extremely horrible with only 1 or 2 raw options. Farm raised items. After last night's experience I'm done with this place. After giving them extra time I came back to pickup my stapled bag order which I was assured contained my complete order with the addition sauces. After getting home I realized the order was short. My sushi wasn't in the stapled bag. I called and spoke to 3 different employees giving all 3 the same information after being on hold 3 times and wasting 11 minutes I was told that they found my order. I went back to pickup my order. After getting home I looked at my order it was upside down and appeared to be opened. Needless to say I called the all trusted Papa John's. 18 minutes later I was eating hot pizza with no issues as always. I'm hard headed but after several times trying this place I can definitely say don't get sushi from there. Their other food appears ok although it's definitely not made there. It's the same thing you get a Wal-Mart. So if you want sushi especially raw seafood items don't waste your money or time. If you just want someone to warm up a frozen meal with added sauces give them a call or just go to Wal-Mart. By the way I'm from the Eastern Shore of Virginia and worked on the Bay and ocean for 28 years. Theirs a real sushi bar just as close so I'll definitely be going there from now on. Again this place is probably ok for a quick premade frozen food warmed up but they shouldn't pretend to be a sushi bar. Cause their...
Read moreOne of the best Sushi spots in the area. I normally go for the lunchbox which comes in a huge portion of tempura, sashimi, salmon teriyaki (substituted for chicken), veg wonton, edamame, soup and salad all for under 12 bucks!
The sashimi is good quality and well maintained. Everything is made to order and you can absolutely taste the pride used.
Breakdown in terms of stars:
Service - Excellent service - waitress checked on drinks constantly and refilled my tea without me asking.
Food - as stated above, I love it. I make a habit of coming here every weekend just for the lunch box.
Atmosphere - very clean, not crowded, friendly and welcoming.
Location - this is the only thing, it is in the heart of Ashburn which is not saying much. Ashburn is removed from most of the 'happening' areas in N.VA. Now that I live in Centreville driving to this place kinda sucks. I still do it though!
Family Friendly - staff is great with kids, environment is welcoming. Nothing loud or annoying. Kids love to spend time here with me!
Overall with the exception of the drive, I love this place. It is a goto spot, and when compared to other sushi places in the area, this one...
