Golden Sun Chinese Restaurant(Carry-Out Only) — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

So I ordered Hot and Spicy Beef(just onions and green peppers) with shrimp fried rice, and sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. The young lady wrote down my takeout order as I stated. The young man upfront advised there was a $3.00 upcharge for shrimp fried rice which I agreed to. When I came back to get my order I'm thinking everything is perfect bag is tied and I head home. I get home I look at the shrimp fried rice it's looks like none is in there at all. Looks like rice with vegetables. I then look at the sweet and sour chicken which looks perfect they give you quite a bit of that. I then look at my hot and spicy beef which i asked to be well done with green peppers and onions. The beef was not well done and it just had onions. I call this place because my order is incorrect. I get the young man at the front. I tell him about my shrimp fried rice and then I tell him about my hot and spicy beef dish. He asked if I wanted a credit or if I was coming back and I told him I was coming back. I'm on my way back and he calls back and said the kitchen said they added shrimp to the rice you probably have to dig around because you only get 4 shrimp. So i dug around and found 1 shrimp With the amount of rice to gave 4 shrimp is not a good ratio. So then he went on to say that there was an upcharge for green peppers because it does not come with the dish and that i was not charged for it. I honestly don' think that was my fault because i asked for them and nobody said anything about and upcharge. But i said fine ill pay the two dollars but i should not have to because my order is wrong. Then the young man says they cant just give me green peppers they have to cook it with a dish. Im already on my way back and on the way there they are giving a hard time about correcting my order which is incorrect. I simply just turned around and told them i would never eat there again then young man just laughed. Now i had to go buy green peppers and shrimp and cook the food over. Which i should not have to do with the prices they are charging. I will stick with Red bowl up the street from now on. Their shrimp fried rice is...

I hadn't been there for a couple of years but this past weekend I went to get a pick up order of $60 worth of food. As I pull up I was shocked of the lack of care of the exterior when, at night time, only about three letters of the name of the restaurant were illuminated and I saw a lot of scumbags walking around out front of the various shops nearby. The entire area has totally deteriorated and seems unsafe, compounded by the broken sign this business tolerates to advertise their restaurant. Now let's talk about the food. I got a chow mein and when I got home I was disappointed to see only one bag of crunchy flat noodles was in the bag. They've always provided two bags. Not sure if this is intentional or if they just weren't paying attention when they put the food in the bag. And the chow mein had a taste of onion powder. Somebody got a little heavy handed in the kitchen with it. The General Tao's chicken was pathetic. The sauce tasted the same as I remember but the actual chicken pieces were not real chicken. It was some type of chicken like substance that seemed to have some type of filler or breading in it and they were all shaped the same in little round balls as if this were the type of crap you get outta a big plastic bag and would feed kids at daycare for lunch because The low quality food is the cheapest option. Even the Hibachi Grill buffet uses real chicken thighs in their food!

Only giving one star because zero isn't an option. My husband has ordered Chicken Fried Rice from Golden Sun multiple times, but tonight's order will be the last. He was very sick & in & out of the bathroom many times before he could even finish his meal. He said he's not even sure that the chicken was actually chicken... it had a very odd texture & flavor. I called to ask if he could get a refund (full or partial) & I was rudely told by the man that answered (bless his heart), "that's bullshit... go to the hospital & if they say it was my food that made him sick I'll give him his money back," to which I replied, "I'll solve the problem we won't be back to get sick again & I'll let the rest of Athens know this isn't the same Golden Sun we've been used to for years." As I was posting this review, I saw other reviews speaking of the bad food & bad new management... & I couldn't agree more. This isn't the only restaurant in town & is far from the best but it's convenient so we overlook some lesser issues we've had with them in the past, however after tonight's issues we will go elsewhere. Management needs to wake up before they are out of business. *They also need to update their online menu prices because they're charging nearly double what the menu says & the meal description says it comes with choice of soup & egg rolls but it doesn't. So if you want to pay too much to get sick from questionable meat & disrespected when you attempt to share the issue with them, then by all means hurry to the Golden Sun off...
