Hibachi Grill Supreme Buffet — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

In the antechamber of the Hibachi Grill Supreme Buffet, there’s one of those nondescript Asian plastic-mountain-statue -water-feature-things set in the middle of a pool full of coins. Either the pump to the water-feature-thing no longer works, or HGSB management just no longer bothers to turn it on; either way the water sits stagnate, tepid, and makes the walls sweat.

Once you make it through that humid little room, you enter the heart of the Hibachi proper, where rows of pans of widely varying temperate either heat or pretend to heat food that may or may not be good.

Not all of the food that I tried on my visit to the HGSB was bad— in fact some of it was very good. Both the Wonton and the Hot and Sour soups were delicious; I highly recommend the chicken on a stick, the Japanese ribs, and the mushrooms.

However, the overwhelming number of choices offered at places like this always forces you to wade through a bunch of okay-to-bad stuff to find the tasty stuff. The noodles were colder than the first Christmas after my parent’s divorce, and the squid, (I know, I’m the idiot for trying the squid at a 20$ buffet 500 miles from an ocean), the squid made me remember why God gave us the ability to forget. The service was excellent; no notes. The water tasted… I don’t know, just kind of weird in my opinion; I would recommend that you stick to soda, or maybe ask for no ice.

Like the water that stands in the HGSB’s grand hall my experience here was so totally flat and forgettable that it has already begun to drain out of my mind as I finish this review.

We came for the lunch time Buffet after 2:00 p.m. we were sure it was going to be a disaster because who has great food fresh at 2:00 p.m. after the lunch rush is over on a Wednesday. This place does me and my husband tried a little bit of everything of all the different dishes that we knew that we definitely like some that we weren't sure about and we did not find one single item that wasn't absolutely delicious hot and fresh out on the buffet. I don't usually care too much for the desserts and stuff like that but this place had a variety and one little cake that tasted like a Tiramisu was the best thing ever not to mention the little eclairs that they have for yet to finish off your delicious meal. I love the fried plantains and I get them everywhere we go these are by far the best the most Superior I've ever had they were caramelized perfectly they were pork tender and just absolutely delicious all the meats all the chickens all the vegetables there just wasn't anything that wasn't fabulous and the waitresses were Superior. They didn't stop with just two glasses of tea each they kept coming back and asking us if we needed something more can't ask for anything better than that we'll be back for sure bringing the whole family with us next time. The absolute worst!! Some reviews said it was good so we tried it. I thought there has to be some good stuff! It was all stale, Luke warm, mushy, over cooked, or undercooked! The utensils had caked on food like they have been sitting for days. Egg rolls, some desserts, sushi, and calamari, were all stale. The crab was over cooked and probably reheated for days. The fried shrimp was mushy like undercooked, I was scared to even finish it. Then I realized there was hibachi that they cook for you so I was like “I can’t go wrong here”. Wrong. It took them 5 min and me asking 2 people to get the guy off the phone to cook my hibachi. He had an attitude and did not want to be at work. The steak was fatty and tough like cheaper than the worst hibachi I’ve ever had, and the shrimp were not cooked long enough so again, I was scared to eat them. I was so disappointed that I wanted to tell them how bad it was but I could not bc I am sure people do this to get out of paying. When I received a bill for 2 adults and 2 kids for $69$!! I was floored!! I will never try this place again!! Highway robbery!! The bathroom also had a sign that asked not to flush paper?
