Today, I gave myself the best birthday present: I quit working at Angela's after 4 years of taking care of thay place as if it were mine.
I will no longer put up with Dan’s toxic, abusive behavior. In my opinion, he is the worst person I’ve ever met, and I have never been treated so badly by anyone in my life. He screams at me in front of tables and in front of the entire restaurant, and then threatens to fire me over nothing — even when I haven’t done a thing wrong. I’m tired of shaking and crying before work because of his constant abuse. No job is worth that. I gave that place everything I had, and I refuse to let it break me down any further.
To all of my wonderful customers — you were the bright spot in every shift. Serving you, laughing with you, and getting to know you has meant the world to me. You were the only good part of that job, and I’ll always be thankful for the kindness and support you’ve shown me. I’ll let you know where I go next, because I would love to continue seeing you.
I’m done being someone’s punching bag. My peace matters more than his power-tripped behavior.
Here’s to better things. Last week was my breaking point.
I had just walked a party of five older men out to the patio and was trying to turn on the TV for them. I made the mistake of asking Dan to help me — he had just walked into the restaurant at 8:30 at night, after not being there all day. He’s never there.
And the first thing he did was come out yelling “No, no, no, no” so loud it felt like he was yelling at my customers too. Then, right there at the concrete bar — with only me, my customers, and him standing there — he started screaming about another employee. And then he turned on me, threatening to fire me if I said anything.
Later, when I quietly asked him not to talk to me like that in front of my customers, he followed me into server alley, screaming his head off. He accused me of things I didn’t even do, kept screaming, and then threatened to take me off the schedule. He was screaming so loud the entire restaurant could hear him — over the Singo game. I was mortified. But I had to plaster on a happy face and keep waiting on my customers, taking care of my other tables like nothing had happened.
That was already embarrassing enough. And it was only one of many times he’s treated me this way. But that night — being screamed at and threatened in front of customers and the whole restaurant — was the last straw. I gave him a week to apologize. He never did. He acted like nothing happened.
Meanwhile, I’m the one left to run the entire restaurant every night — for $8 an hour.
$8 an hour to be screamed at? No...
Read moreThe food is excellent! 👍 The service is friendly and attentive. Jade is absolutely awesome! ...but the "music"...the noise is unbearable. We will be getting all our food to go going forward.
The first night we went they were continually playing 5 seconds of varying 80's songs. A DJ had the music pumped up super loud and would announce a song and play 5 seconds of it then stop the song, announce another, play 5 seconds of it, and on and on and on. I was sitting there thinking, "have people's attention spans become THIS pathetic?" Finally we figured out they were playing "music bingo" but for songs to change every 5 seconds is a special torture reminding me of pushing the scan button on old FM car radios for an entire hour. Excruciating.
The 2nd night we went, I asked Jade to just make it a takeout order because some young lady was thoroughly humiliating herself "singing." I'm not sure who told this young woman she could sing, and it definitely wasn't karaoke 🎤. But this poor woman was absolutely terrible. She had no business performing in a public place. Her voice was uneven, off key, would break, and was overpowered by a poor audio set up. The few customers in the restaurant deserve an award for their loving patience with that "singer." The weak applause she received is an absolute tribute to the kindness and tolerance of the people there. Charity claps are kind and speak well of those who endured her "performance."
I'm sure the restaurant doesn't care that you use Angela's as a take out resource, but it sucks for their servers who are actually really good at their job. The "entertainment" is driving down the income of the wait staff. If customers are willing to come sit down and tip, but the "music" drives them away, that's really counterproductive.
There is an outdoor area where the music is sufficiently dampened, but it looks like it's in the middle of being built so you'd be eating in a hot construction site in the parking lot. No thanks.
Angela's is awesome enough not to need live music at all. But if management is adamant about music, let the DJ play entire songs minus a bingo theme, or hire talented performers.
After asking around within the community, I'm told this is "normal" and several of the people I asked said they don't bother eating there due to the noise pollution. That's sad because the food really is delicious. But I'd recommend this place for...
Read moreWe just recently moved to town and thought we would try something new and was quite disappointed in this place. Upon arriving the host took us to a table and we asked for a booth instead of a table since we have two young children. Apparently this did not sit right with the host because she looked at us in disbelief turned around and sighed loudly, took us to the booth and set the menus down. My husband said thank you and she just walked away.
The atmosphere was less than inviting. The food was less flavorful than we were expecting from a Cuban restaurant and a little overpriced for the quality. Several items in our order did not arrive at the table when the food was brought out and we reminded the person that brought us the food of such. She never returned. A few minutes later when our server come to check on us and see if the food was okay we also had to tell her that part of our order did not arrive. She quickly retrieved it but with very little personality or apologies for our wait. My husband was the only one who finished his food and quite frankly probably just because he was hungry. The rest of us left with our food in to go boxes that will more than likely sit in the refrigerator until they're thrown out. Unfortunately I can say that we will not be returning to this establishment. I would also suggest, as someone in customer service myself, better training for the staff in the customer service department. It always baffles me when I go to a restaurant and get the kind of service that we received here because servers work strictly on tips and the way their service is presented. You also have to pay on a handheld device that the server has and holds while you sit there and pay. I personally feel like this is a very unprofessional method of payment and will automatically tip...
