Where's all the chili????
I’ve lived in Athens my whole life and have been going here for at least a decade. Tonight was my worst experience and the worker’s are to blame.
I ordered a large chili cheese fry and barely got any toppings at all. I’ve noticed the last few times I’ve gone here when the couple of women employees are there they barely give any toppings compared to past employees. You can see in my pictures what it looks like in the basket they give you, then when I moved it on to a plate at home, and finally how many fries I have left that have 0 toppings. Seriously, I have half the fries left still and no toppings at all to eat them with. If I wanted plain fries I would have ordered them instead of a chili cheese fry. Wasted money for sure.
Also, they used to ask if you’d like a bag when ordering but they don’t do that anymore and if I ask for a bag when they tell me my food is ready, the girl who gives me my food passive aggressively says “Yeah, but remember to ask for one when you order next time”. What makes a difference when I ask for the bag? Any other place would ask me if I wanted a bag, I wouldn’t have to be the one to ask for it, especially when you can’t even eat inside at night. You know not everyone that eats your food is a student who is going to eat and walk right?
Currently there is only one employee that makes the food as it always has been and it is a male around 30-40 years old would be my guess (not sure of his name or actual age though) and he is awesome, customer service and how he makes the food, so keep him around.
This experience was terrible...
Read moreStopped after a high school tournament game for some take out. This place is reasonably priced and offers mostly a variety of hot dogs and brats. There a few other things as well especially fries and spaghetti. Ordered a couple of Dixie hot dogs ($4.75) which have O'Bettys own chili sauce, mustard, onions, and cheddar cheese. The first thing you notice when you bite into this dog is the snap of biting into it. It makes a sound when you bite into it. The hot dog is cooked well and the dog itself is very good. In my opinion the O'Bettys chili sauce is very similar to skyline chili. It has the nutmeg flavor and I believe the consistency is similar as well. Personally I'm not a big fan of skyline chili although I will have the occasional chili cheese dog or two. What stood out more was the mustard, some pretty powerful stuff. Maybe there was just too much mustard on my sandwich as it stood out more than it should have. The brat was sliced in half and cooked in a grill but the flavor was not really that good. My son who was with me and loves brats thought the same thing. I have had similar tasting brats at high school football games and have always been disappointed when that happens. We ended up getting the Bettie ($5) which also had the chili sauce. Anyway if you enjoy skyline you would enjoy the chill sauce here and this the Dixie. If not then you would be better off choosing something without the sauce. Again, the hot dog is high quality and very good on its own. Would I go again? Yes. How far would I travel to go...
Read moreThis is one of my new favorite places of all time. From the menu, to the food, to the people working there and the decor. I love it so much. The hot dogs are all beef (none of that chicken trash) and everything I tried was delicious. I got a Sophie, Dixie and Tempest for Dogs. Then a small order of very cheesy fries, Cole slaw and baked beans. With an IBC root Beer to drink because they're awesome enough to have that as well! Everything was delicious, hands down the best coney I've ever had and I've put a lot of Meat, Buns, and special sauce in my mouth. The 2 people working there were super friendly and helpful and definitely deserve some recognition. The decor is absolutely phenomenal and you just have to see it, not even giving any more context. I highly recommend trying it, it's worth the drive wherever you're coming from and there's tons of good hiking in the are(the reason I was there actually, hiking part of the Ohio Buckeye Trail). So go put one of O'Bettys Juicy, Tasty Wieners in your mouth hole and then walk it off. Have...
