Taco John's — Restaurant in Athens

Taco John’s has become one of my favorite spots for a quick and satisfying meal, and it’s all thanks to their consistently delicious tacos and those irresistible Potato Olés. Every visit leaves me full, happy, and already planning my next trip.

The tacos here are absolutely spot-on. The shells are always fresh and perfectly crisp, giving that satisfying crunch with every bite. The seasoned beef is flavorful and juicy, and the toppings—shredded lettuce, cheese, and just the right amount of sauce—are always fresh and generously portioned. They have a great variety too, from classic hard and soft tacos to their specialty tacos that are full of bold flavor. You can tell they take care to make sure each taco is made right.

But let’s be honest—the real MVP might just be the Potato Olés. These crispy, golden rounds are the perfect mix of crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, with seasoning that’s downright addictive. They’re great on their own, but when you pair them with one of Taco John’s dipping sauces (especially the nacho cheese or sour cream), they’re on another level. I’ve honestly gone there just for Potato Olés more than once, and I have no regrets.

The staff is always friendly and efficient, making sure orders come out quickly and accurately, even during busy times. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Prices are fair for the quality and portions you get, and I appreciate that I can enjoy a tasty meal without spending a lot.

Ok, so to start with, I acknowledge this is Fast Food. Within a category of "fast food," I give my experience 5 stars. It is not equal to the sit down restaurant at the edge of town, nor to Chipotle. I did, however, while enjoying a taco salad and a chicken street taco think to myself, "this is better than Taco Bell in every way." I have several friends who like Taco Bell, and I too can eat there just give, but I consider the quality of what I ate at this Athens location to be superior to any Taco Bell I've had. Individual tastes can vary. This location is in a college town, and to be fair my 2 experiences there have been during the summer, while college is not in full swing. The workers were kind, courteous, and patient, and my taco looked like a taco with everything actually inside the taco. I was already impressed (but maybe I'm easy) that the taco salad was in a box to protect its shape. It would not surprise me if the box is the most expensive part of the $6 food item. Not surprisingly, the taco "bowl" was completely intact, and was light and crispy. My family and I really like the sauce/dressing that comes with the taco salad, and as a guy that likes things saucy, there was a healthy portion of the dressing, too...a 2oz container, I think. The freshness of the toppings was better than expected, and the partial lime wedge for the street taco was a nice touch. And so again I say, this is Fast Food, and within fast foods I consider this a 5...

I could eat chicken street tacos here everyday! A bit pricey, but totally worth it! Now let's talk about the tots! These would blow Napoleon's mind!

update Unfortunately the last few time I have went here, the staff has been incredibly rude. I always go out of my way to be cheerful to food service workers, because I know sometimes they have to deal with rude people. The last time we went we didn't even leave with food. We went through the drive-thru. We asked for the Fandemonium. There has been posters up for over a week, all over the windows and signs. When we asked for two, the girl who was taking the order very rudely said "No, we don't have that." It more or less just sounded like she didn't want to work. As it has seemed our last few visits. When we got home I called and asked if they had the deal going on and about what happened. The "supervisor" said rudely "oh well, she didn't know probably." There has been signs up well over a week. If everyone was not so rude there I would not have changed my rating. I do love this place and the food will always get 5 stars. Staff and customer service however, is on the other side of...
