Before I get too far into this review, I just want everyone to know that this has been my favorite discovery during my coffee scene exploration. When Jaclyn first mentioned this place, I was excited because I hadn't been to a proper neighborhood bakery in Atlanta. And I've lived here for more than 20 years. And then I found out they brewed Batdorf & Bronson coffee, which made the anticipation that much greater.
So with high expectations Jaclyn and I proceeded to go to the Virginia Highlands location. Nestled in between some houses and some amazing local ships, Alon's Bakery is at first a very unassuming place. But then you open the doors, and you enter into a corner store style bakery where you can get just about everything. Coffee, bread, breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine , and so much more. Alon's has something for just about everyone, and ever since my first trip, I have been back there religiously.
Atmosphere- From the moment you pull into the parking lot, you get a very neighborly vibe. Once inside, the feeling continues as you're surrounded by everything that makes up a true neighborhood bakery. The smell, the setup, and the clean and open feel make this one of the most inviting places I've ever been to.
Coffee- Serving Atlanta's own Batdorf & Bronson, the coffee is what you'd expect. Delicious. Alon's Bakery offers the more common B&B blends, and you can't go wrong with any of them.
Service- Friendly, courteous, and always willing to help. One of the best things I can say is that no matter how crowded Alon's gets, the staff stays very patient and does not rush any customer. And somehow the lines are always moving.
Location- Sitting in the northern end of Virginia Highlands, Alon's Bakery is in a very nice and very friendly part of town. It's a perfect place to come grab a bite, grab a cup of coffee, and go for a casual stroll.
Legitimacy- With 2 locations that have been operating for 20 years, Alon's Bakery is becoming a mainstay in Atlanta. Serving known local coffee and serving as a go to lunch spot for the working crowd, Alon's is a very...

We reached out to ask about a special order for 2 croquembouches for our wedding. There were concerns over the distance and timing, so we were in discussions with the catering team to see if it would be possible. On Friday, we were given a verbal quote of a $300 delivery fee and a late delivery limit of 8pm. Since we planned on eating them between 7:30 and 8, it was perfect. We asked for a copy of the quote and were told it would be emailed shortly.
On Monday, we still had not received the quote, so I reached out to check on the status. I got on the phone with who seemed to be the catering manager (I did not catch their name), and asked about the order. They asked me for my information and abruptly put me on hold for ~5min. After taking me off hold, they said that there were concerns with the order and started bringing up all the issues we had cleared on the previous Friday.
This is where things got unprofessional. We were rehashing the distance and timing, and they told me that the delivery fee would be $400 ($100 more than previously discussed) and 5:30 was the latest they could deliver. When I mentioned that we were told 8pm in our previous call, they blatantly said "they didn't tell you that." I replied "ma'am, please don't call me a liar."
At this point, they hung up. About a minute later, I was called back and told they didn't know what happened but that they would not be taking our order. They vaguely alluded that they tried to work with us, but that it wasn't going to work out.
Up until this point, none of the interactions had be negative at all. Apparently we had been speaking with an assistant up until the last call, so the sudden change in tone was unexpected. While it is understandable that you may not be able to accommodate certain requests, this is an example of how NOT to go about it. I'm honestly just surprised at the lack of tact. Maybe we were told wrong information in our previous discussions, but to insinuate a customer is lying...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRecently visited this location for the first time due to convenience of location since Iāve moved. I usually go to the perimeter location which is amazing every time. Their breakfast is extremely limited in options. Also I purchased 3 twice baked croissants and a dozen macarons. The macarons were placed into an open box instead of a macaron sleeve so all 12 cookies got broken and the flavors MIXED. It takes nothing for macarons to break as they are a delicate cookie. They were packaged like store brand Oreos instead of the almost $3 per cookie they are. I purchase these cookies out of indulgence so to not have the decadent experience I seek is upsetting.
The reason I gave two stars instead of one is because I called and they were willing to make it right by the end of day but my boyfriend didnāt make it in time so I was stuck with them. I decided to make the best of it and eat them anyway, only for them to taste like refrigerator (aka, other foods).
We also got three twice baked croissants and they were all extremely hard, dry and sounded like crackers when you ate them. The ends themselves were completely inedible because it cut the roof of my mouth. I tossed the third after the second failed croissants. Needless to say Iām livid. We spent almost $100 on breakfast, croissants and cookies just to enjoy approximately $20 worth of food. It was very disappointing and upsetting. Iām always referring friends, family and the like to go to Alonās. If I didnāt love Alonās bakery soooo muchā¦I would never go back. Iāll be sticking to the...
