My visit to Smashing Eats went well. The strawberry heat wings were “different”, sweet, and tasty- I think I’ll try lemon pepper next time (as long as they aren’t sweet). The fries were good and seasoned well. I also tried the sweet onion turkey wing with macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, and greens. The sides were sizable portions. Everything was good (except the greens tasted like they were canned). Loved the sweet potatoes especially…The mini cornbread muffins were delicious, but a few got soggy with pot liquor (juice from greens) because they were placed on top of the greens and not wrapped separately. The others were stuck to the mac n’ cheese. I would separate them with a sheet of wax on paper or by wrapping them in foil. Last, I tried the shrimp and three cheese grits. There were six medium sized shrimp on top of a sea of grits and the parsley for garnish and flavor made the dish a tad awkward tasting. The nice portion of grits was in stark contrast to that particular number of shrimp- just seems like something is missing. It was really cheesy- they don’t list what the three cheeses are. I wouldn’t order that particular dish again. It needs to be revamped..- the recipe. Meanwhile, the manager, Portia, was attentive and warm as she related to customers. She holds her kitchen staff to a high degree and she checks for presentation of food before it gets to the customer, and that’s great. The atmosphere was super clean and pleasing to the eye with its epoxy floors, table decor, led lights, large screen tv, menu screens, and silk flower wall art… and Jackson Pollack styled paint splash feature wall was also evident. All in all, I’d patronize this place again. And the desserts looked sooooo good, I heard people sometimes come in just to get those huge cups of refrigerated sweets. They’re big enough to share. I saw a chocolate and ? dessert, banana pudding, and strawberry cheesecake. The strawberry shortcake, I heard about, but didn’t see, reportedly always sells out first every time. I’m not big on sweets, but I might try one… That’s all (this review is...
Read moreI placed my order at 7:40 p.m. on a Sunday night and received it at 8:20 p.m. (Cook Time- 25 minutes) (Delivery- 15 minutes). I got the SEA Rib Plate w/ Hot Honey Butter Glaze, with fried mac & cheese (which I mistook for baked mac & cheese) and yams as sides. The ribs were not as tender as I had hoped, but they were still tasty and easy to eat. The seasoning may be a little overpowering at times, as the glaze itself offers taste. The fried mac & cheese had a distinct but unpleasant flavor; compared to conventional mac, it was acidic and left a strong sour cream aftertaste. The yams were delicious, soft and flavorful but not overly sweet; nevertheless, the portion could have been larger. The Banana Pudding Cake Cup is a 10/10 because it tastes homemade and crafted with love. The regular baked which i mistook for the creamy mac was smoky and flavorful, with garlic and a nice amount of seasoning, which was wonderful because not many people can shine outside of elbow noodles. The yams on the side were ample, with just the proper amount of sweetness and texture. While I did not receive the cornbread I requested, I did receive three slices of pesto bread, which were wonderful, warm, distinctive, and savory, with a great touch of cheese. Finally, there's the Calypso Grilled Shrimp, which comes with fajita vegetables, sweet chili sauce, coconut ric & peas, and collard greens. The shrimp was well-seasoned and went nicely with the fajita vegetables and sweet chili sauce. The coconut rice and peas were perfectly cooked and tasty. Finally, the collard greens were delicious; while they did have a sweet flavor, it wasn't overpowering, but rather distinctive and a wonderful twist...
Read moreSaw smashing eats on a tik tok review. Decided I wasn’t going to go because someone told me I had to try Mary Macs… I didn’t want to drive back into the city so I made the executive decision to have it delivered to us. We were out of range of delivery so no big deal we would pick it up (40 minute drive through traffic). So we end up ordering the southern plate and rasta pasta. We pulled up to smashing eats about 10 minutes before pick up time and they gave me the food EXACTLY on time.
We drove 40 minutes home… pulled out the food chicken STILL crispy and amazing. Absolutely stunning southern fried chicken. Tastes homemade. Wifey got the rasta pasta and it was seasoned to perfection. A little spicy for her but for anyone who can handle medium levels up spices it’s actually perfect. The yams were rich, delicious, soft, and carmelized. The greens were incredibly seasoned with a Caribbean flare. Same goes for the mac and cheese perfectly creamy and cheesy with incredibly tasty Caribbean flare.
Three minor negatives out of all the entire experience. One, i wish there were more noodles in the mac the ratio was off to my personal opinion still an 8/10 (everything else was an actual 10/10). Two, the area it was in can for sure be intimidating if you aren’t a local or from a similar area. Three, the WORST one lol… they forgot my corn muffin which i was extremely excited for but the rest of their food made up for it. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR BRINGING YOUR INCREDIBLE CARIBBEAN FAIR TO...
