Good morning from Atlantic city New Jersey!! After hearing about Gilchrist for quite some time I decided to come and try it out. Located near the Atlantic city Aquarium in the Historic Garden basin , you can park and you're a walking distance to the boat rides, paragliding, the Aquarium and other eating establishments. We were greeted the the host and she sat us right away. Then quickly greeted by waitress #1 and she got our drink orders and informed us of the day specials. Our drinks were brought to us and waitress #2 took our order. I went with the special which was fresh crab with spinach omelet. My husband tried the Hungry Man combo #2 which included 2 eggs, 2 hot cakes, choice of meat and choice of home fries or grits. The spot we were sitting was nice it was in a corner overlooking the water. I love that so much! Not too long after our breakfast was brought out to us. I loved it wasn't huge messy plates. The food was nicely plated on a size appropriate plate. Waitress # 3 came and checked on us but everything was great. The restaurant was constantly full and turned over quite often, so you see they are popular. Let me tell you the omelet was delishhhhhhhhh....they didn't skimp on the crab meat, the spinach was actually fresh, and the egg was perfectly cooked and it was fluffy. I had ordered rye toast and it was actually toasted unlike other places they run it through those conveyor belt toasters that toast only 1 side. The home fries were freshly made and tasted delicious. My husband was very happy with his actual crispy not burned not full of grease bacon. He usually splashes hot sauce on everything he eats but the food was tasty enough he didn't even ask for hot sauce (😲I was shocked that it met his palate expectations) the hot cakes he ordered were huge but thinner than a usual hotcake but thicker than a crepe. The taste was fresh and he loved it. Usually in a restaurant were they pool tips I feel bad because the server gets cheated especially if they give great service but coworkers suck. But here at Gilchrist it's work flow is like a perfectly running machine and all were on point and you can tell the servers had a good flow and system to give great service with a timely manner too. So yes to the reviews, I too recommend it here!!! It'd delishhhh.. I hope you give it a try! Enjoy ! #tastebudadventures #breakfast #Atlanticcity #nj #crabisyummy #seafoodinflunence...
Read moreI’ve been coming here a while now..food is consistently good and it’s close to the boardwalk. But the service is hit or miss. Some of the staff are warm/friendly, but there are a few servers who seem like they clearly don’t want to be there. As soon I sat down I felt like it was a inconvenience for my server to take my order. I hadn’t even scanned the menu before I was abruptly asked if I was ready to order. After a minute I placed my order..clearly my server had some big plans afterwards and taking more than a few seconds to order was not in the cards. I was there about a half hour, not once did anyone who passed by me smile, ask if I need anything, refill my coffee..nada. But some of the staff definitely had time to crack jokes w each other, discuss summer plans..I laughed a bit to myself when I overheard one staff member brag about how they put 100% effort towards any task at hand (except when it comes to being cordial to customers, god forbid it gets in the way of flirting with the other servers).
Let me be clear, I have zero problem w staff joking/socializing w each other..they have a tough job, I get it. But when you have 1-2 people sitting at the counter and most of the restaurant is empty, it shouldn’t be a hardship to check on your customers once in awhile. When it came time to pay, I was asked how things were..I said food was good, but service was so-so. And you know what his reaction was? Nothing. So why write this review? It pisses me off that I’m a local and I get treated like I’m an annoying tourist (and even if I was, still no excuse for the sh**ty attitudes). I have a local business, and I often go here to work. However, I’ll stick to the other locations...
Read moreWe come here every year as a family while we are on vacation. Yes, there is a wait but they have things moving and you can hang out on a nice day and take in the sights. Today when we went it was different than previous years. The tables were different and set up so they could fit more people which is fine, so just know that space is not something you get while dining here. We were a table of 8 squeezed in, which is ok until you get all your plates of food and at that point there really is a crowding issue. Our waitress was nice, seemed a little less seasoned than some of the other waitresses but she was pleasant. I had a decaf coffee and was never offered a 2nd cup. The girl that brought out our food was not our waitress and she had a serious attitude for some reason. In addition to that not all our food was brought out and we had to ask for the remainder to be brought out which seemed like a burden to this waitress. We had to ask for additional creamers, butter, water. Things that should have either been on the table or offered to us being that we were a table of 8. We had to go inside more than once to tell them of missed items that we ordered. Just overall less than pleasant experience this year and maybe the girl was having a bad day, but I myself have worked in customer service for years and you smile out front and go in the kitchen or the back and scream, cry, curse, whatever. We will be looking into different places for our yearly outing maybe even just go to a different...
