Monty's BBQ — Restaurant in Atlantic Highlands

My wife and I stopped in about about 45 minutes before close, cutting it a bit close, but we had it on our short list of places to try and we happened to be in the area so figured, why not. Not only was the food amazing, the service was PHENOMENAL! An employee named Margaret came up and asked how we were doing, as I scraped the last of my brisket off of my tray and jokingly said, “well as you can tell I didn’t like it”, we chuckled and proceeded to finish up. Not a few moments later Margaret returned with a plate with 2 pieces of cake, she said “I tried making this new recipe I found - I wanted to give you both a piece.” It was INCREDIBLE. But to us, what was even more incredible was her level of commitment to her guests happiness. We made sure she knew we were fans by not leaving a single crumb left. She returned moments later again with a to-go box and said “well since you guys liked it so much, I want you to have the last piece.” We proceeded to have a 5 minute conversation, talking about life and the restaurant. I can truly say it was the best service I have had in a very long time, and people like Margaret are reminders that people not only love their jobs, but more importantly, they love being good people for no other reason than just that. Monty’s gained 2 very loyal guests...

BBQ didn’t disappoint. You are greeted by a strong and delicious aroma as soon as you enter the restaurant. I ordered the family platter with four other buddies. It was more than enough food for five guys. It had a little of everything including corn bread.

Couple suggestions:

1. Cornbread is a little more moist than typical cornbread. If you aren’t a fan of moist cornbread, skip it.
2. the chicken wings are well worth it. One of the tastiest chicken wings
3. skip the turkey and pulled pork.
4. Get instead the brisket and ribs. They are beyond amazing. I love how the brisket is so tender and glistening with grease and sauce. One of the most delicious briskets I have ever eaten.
5. Get the Mac and cheese. Won’t regret. Baked beans are good but the Mac and cheese was my favorite.
6. Sauces are really the star of the show. Make sure to try multiple sauces.

I am sure to be back with my friends and family. Monty’s is now my favorite BBQ...

I attended an event last night that had catered boxed meals from Monty’s BBQ. So so so yummy good! The extremely generous portion of authentic pulled pork was DELICIOUS! It was seasoned to perfection on its own but they included a container with a tangy dressing to add some more zing if you so desired (it was so nice to have the choice!). There was also a side of coleslaw to kick things up to an entirely new level of yummy goodness! The sandwich bun was the perfect springy texture, not too moist and soft that it sticks to the roof of your mouth like a potato bun. I’m kinda particular about my pulled pork, so when I say these guys nailed their slow roast, I dont say that lightly. To top it off there was a small container of dessert that rounded out the whole experience. Some sort of chocolate and vanilla pudding with bananas. Whatever it was, it was the perfect ending to my Monty’s experience. Can’t wait to dine in soon! ...
