Waffle House — Restaurant in Attalla

Friday night, on a date.

Late. Need coffee. Low rent.

Waffle House, obviously.

Pull up. Police in gas station across street. Many.

Man with bandana and beard outside smoking. Small dog waiting by door. People inside gathered by window watching cops.

Parked.

Another car pulls up beside me. Woman gets out and starts dancing.

She knows smoking man. She dances at him. The dog acknowledges us. We learn he belongs to a man named Roadkill.

She leaves.

Go inside.

There has been a shooting at the gas station.

Order Patty Melt, hash browns smothered covered and chunked. She has bacon and eggs. Coffee. Diet Coke and unsweet tea.

The waitress is friendly, but a little shaken. She heard it.

Sometimes heard the shooting. From the motel. He just moved here from Minnesota.

Food comes, and is great.

The kitchen is in full swing… most tables filled — aside from the ones on the side of the restaurant facing the shooting. The staff have tactfully blocked those with chairs by now.

Our waitress is quick with refills and frequently checks in, despite the kitchen running full steam behind her. And the shooting.

A man comes in looking for Roadkill. He is there. The man needs his motorcycle light fixed. Roadkill seems irritated.

We pay our bill and leave.

The police are almost...

Well, my truck broke down on I59 in Alabama near the Waffle House. So I had breakfast here and waited for my truck to get fixed. It was very comfortable setting and real great prices. After eating, I just waited here inside to get updated from the mechanic shop and the staff didn't mind me waiting inside. I'm happy that they are very understanding of travelers and me just hanging out here until I was ready to leave. The food was great. Kylie was our server and very kind. I just want to say that the staff here at Waffle House made me feel very welcome both as customer and as a fellow person. Thank you. It was my first experience at Waffle House. I'm from California and was heading back when I broke down here. But it gave me a chance to appreciate this moment in life at a friendly restaurant in a small...

VISITED THIS LOCATION OCTOBER 18TH, 2024 @6:45 PM.....Been to many waffle houses as I work late nights and travel a lot and I have to say this is the new best of the best I've been to. store was super clean cook line was nothing short of emaculant, and the service was top notch on point. Greeted with a smile as soon as I walked through the doors not just by my server but by the whole team. Upon arrival I was the only guest yet the crew was still busy cleaning. When you have 21 years in the industry yourself 15 of that at a huddle house so i tend to notice the small details. I give this team an AAAA+++++ DEFINITELY an ALL-STAR TEAM. EITHER THE MANAGER GOT LUCKY OR KNOWS WHAT SHE IS DOING. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK GUYS... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS WAFFLE HOUSE EVEN AS A EX HUDDLE HOUSE...
