We stopped here on the way home for some dinner.
When we went in there was nobody around except for a customer sitting at a table waiting for a to go order. We walked up to the front and grabbed some menus and sat down at a table.
After a few minutes a server came up to us and asked if we wanted to eat in the restaurant. We said yes and he came back with some water glasses and silverware.
The server came back and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered two orders of butter chicken and a garlic naan based upon the Google reviews we had seen. We had already finished our waters and had to ask for more.
When the food arrived we had to ask for more water. I noticed that the server accidentally stuck his thumb in my butter chicken as he set the dish down on the table.
The butter chicken was decent, I’d get it again. The chicken was thinly sliced and the texture was very uniform, which reminded me of the pre-cooked, sliced grilled chicken you can get in the frozen section at the grocery store. The sauce was nice; I thought it had notes of carrots and peanut butter. I ordered spice level 4 and it did have some spice to it. I’d probably try level 5 next time.
The garlic naan was also good, but not great. The naan was a little more plain, and the garlic on top was more finely chopped than what we’ve had elsewhere. It was also missing the char that we’ve come to expect from our experiences at other Indian restaurants.
We had to flag down the server again for water and for some more rice (they charged for the extra rice). He was standing at the cash resister talking with another employee and wasn’t really paying attention to the customers.
Speaking of which, we were the only table that was dining in. There were several folks that came in to pick up to go orders, and one couple that came in to place a to go order while we were eating. You’d think that the service would be better?
The restaurant is pretty basic inside; it seemed to be just a section of the market that was next door that was walled off to be on its own. It was dark in the dining area; most of the light came in through the front door. There was no air conditioning. It was a hot day and they had a fan perched on a table by the front door. We were sweating the entire time we were inside.
There was no restroom or restroom signage. When I asked about the restroom, they suggested that we go through the kitchen to access the restroom. We chose to wait, instead.
Overall, I would say come here and get the food to go. The dining experience...
Read moreThis little spot was an awesome find. Tucked in a tiny space next to the Auburn Valley Humane Society thrift store (trust me it is there! and if you get lost, call them and they will guide you in). This spot is the hidden gem you have been looking for, trust.
The food was fresh, well balanced, and flavorful. The meat was tender and succulent, and simply good. As we sat enjoying our food we could hear the other diners loving their food as well.
We had the Garlic Naan, the Butter Chicken, and the Lamb Vindaloo. The meal filled up three grown people and we took home enough for an full plate. The left overs warmed up beautifully and tasted amazing the next day.
The price is fair and really good considering the portions and flavors in the food. If you are sensitive to spices, talk to your server and they will make a recommendation that is flavorful but easy on the stomach.
The atmosphere is family style and casual, clean and warm. You can see the vision but it is in work. Right now, it is about the food so go there for the great meal.
The service was given with pride in the product, enthusiasm for the business, and excitement for the future. This spot is the real deal, try anything, you will be happy. We are looking forward to our next meal there. Go...
