Updated as of 10/7: I booked one of my favorite restaurants on my birthday in hopes to have an amazing time! I was pumped all day and all week for this day. I had a friend who came along with me to celebrate. We had a new waiter and he was very sweet. I’ve visited Beck’s several times and get the same dish every time because I like what I like and they prepare it to perfection. I’m allergic to rice so when I order salmon I get grits with no stir fry and definitely no wasabi over my salmon. I asked for roasted Brussels sprouts instead of collards this time. My friend wanted her salmon without the wasabi and told him of her desired veggie. Both came back not correct however the focus was more on my plate. I let him know that I didn’t ask for the stir fry veggies and he stated he thought I wanted Brussels sprouts in addition to the veggies. He immediately took the plate and said I will have them remake it. I was fine with them just taking the veggies off and bringing the Brussels but he left so quickly. The manager came and spoke to us and I assured her that the mixup wasn’t a problem. I was still anticipating my amazing favorite salmon. I believe in a rush to get it out to me it was undercooked and the manager and I both saw the middle of the salmon. She apologized and took it back to be cooked a little longer. When I finally got the salmon and grits, I tasted it and it was bland and just tasteless. I was shocked because I rated them my favorite. They cook it better than most places but tonight must have been an off night or maybe new cooks? I may dine here again but I will think long and hard before I commit to it. Between it being hard to obtain a front room seat that’s not reserved for VIPs and this… my views are now kind of tainted. I forgot to add that I didn’t eat anymore of the salmon and they took my dinner off of the bill. My friend ate her dinner although she didn’t care for the wasabi on it.
Separate visit: I’ve visited a few times and the food first and foremost was amazing. The service is always great. I absolutely love salmon and typically order the dish when I go and it’s always perfect. I need to bring myself to try other entrees lol. Those that I’ve dined with have raved about their particular...
Read moreI called the day before our FORTIETH wedding anniversary and left a request on their voicemail for a 6:30 reservation. I gave both of our names and telephone # as well as requested time and that dinner for for our 40th anniversary.
I realized we were running late so I called to let them know. MacKenzie (sp?) said we didn't have a reservation. I ran through the story and she said that there was no such message on their voice-mail because she was the person who called back customers.
She did say that she would try to accommodate us. We were seated at a tiny booth in a heavily wait staff used hallway. We asked to be moved and even said we'd wait. Mackenzie got just a little loud with my husband and reiterated that we didn't make a reservation to which my husband responded to by asking if she was calling him a liar. She raised her voice and asked my husband if he was calling her a liar. This young lady is 16. We are 60. We asked to speak with John (owner) and were told that he would be in shortly. My husband asked about a vacant booth at the front of the restaurant and was told it was reserved. Long story short, we ended up at the reserved table.
We ordered the Hunt oysters and asked that they be prepared firm - they were not but we let it go. Our server Brie was great. We shared the filet entrée. While everything tasted okay, NOTHING was hot. Again, we didn't complain. John was literally sitting right next to us at the bar enjoying dinner with a woman that I didn't know. We waited until we were all done with our meals and made it a point to voice our concerns. He couldn't have cared less based on his response. We are now out $150.00 for a mediocre at best dinner. No "happy anniversary," no apologies, no nothing! This was our first and now LAST visit. Thanks for nothing. Thanks for all but ruining a very special occasion in our lives. Mackenzie needs to learn respect - again, no apology AND raised her voice, AND basically called my husband a liar. BTW - a too short dress with sneakers isn't appropriate attire for a hostess! ...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Beck's last weekend. We were running about 15 minutes late, so we called ahead to apologize and ask if they could please hold our reservation. We were told that was totally fine, which we greatly appreciated. When we arrived we were seated immediately. When our server arrived, we chose a dozen raw oysters from a menu of different types. When they finally arrived, the server told us which was which, and that they always threw in a few extra, which was a lovely surprise. We enjoyed them so much that we ordered another dozen, split between the two kinds we had most enjoyed. A different server brought the next dozen, with the extra few, but when she told us what the order was we explained that that wasn't what we ordered--six of them were incorrect. Her pleasant demeanor immediately changed, but she took them back. When she returned a few minutes later with the correct oysters, we noticed our "extras" had been removed. Fine, we only ordered a dozen, it just seemed a bit catty to remove the extras for their mistake. A bit later our food arrived (we both ordered the tuna). It looked DELICIOUS. Unfortunately, on my wife's second bite she (a light blonde) found a very long black hair cooked and plated into her tuna. We quietly waited until we saw our server come by, then caught her attention, showed her the hair, and politely asked if they could bring another tuna. She gave us a quick "sorry" and brought another. Later, a manager breezed by and, without even stopping, said, "Sorry about that." It was pretty disgusting, but everyone treated us like WE were the ones who had done something wrong. It's typically common to comp that particular dish or adjust a bill a bit when that happens, but they did neither even though we paid over $200 for dinner. Bottom line, the actual food is delicious if they get it right and there's no hair in it, but the staff can be pretty rude if you have a problem. I doubt very much...
