8595 Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Augusta

My fiancé wanted to take me somewhere nice for dinner so we decided to try this restaurant. It is advertised as a fine dining establishment but our experience is best described as fine. The entrance to the restaurant was difficult to find but when we entered, we were promptly greeted and sat. We did have a reservation in order to make this process easier. Our server greeted us not long after being seated. He was training someone and they both were incredibly nice. Our server was not able to come to our table as much so we were practically given service by the trainee. We ordered our drinks and received them in a timely manner. The "Whale Flower" which I believe to be the name of the cocktail I ordered tasted watered down but I finished it anyway. My fiancé sat with an empty water glass at least twice for maybe 5 minutes each time despite the server coming over and seeing the empty glass.

We ordered the jalapeño pimento cheese hush puppies as an appetizer. There wasn't really any pimento cheese unless it was incorporated into the batter of the hushpuppy. However, they tasted fine. For entrees, my fiancé ordered the Waygu burger. For such a prime selection of meat, the presentation of the burger fell flat. The cut of the tomato was not uniform, the lettuce was wilting, and the burger patty itself was bland. He also got the mac and cheese as a side. It had great flavor but was more warm than it was hot. I ordered the 14oz New York strip. The taste of the steak was nice. It had a delicious char on the outside but the inside wasn't uniformly cooked. One side of the steak was medium-rare while the other side was medium (the temperature I ordered). I also got the jambalaya and collards as sides. The jambalaya had great flavor and was hot, however the cut of the sausage in the jambalaya was not uniform and the large cuts seemed out of place in such a small side. My first serving of collards were cold and had to be sent back. My second serving was hotter but bland.

After we finished our entrées, we ordered dessert through the trainee. I unfortunately misspoke and asked for the cheesecake instead of the creme brulee. I would've eaten the cheesecake but I am allergic to pecans. When I brought this to our server's attention he seemed very annoyed but had the trainee bring out the creme brulee anyway. The dish that yhe creme brulee came served in was rather shallow. Tje top was barely brown so I was surprised to find that the bit of custard underneath the sugar was partially liquid. We also ordered the raspberry macaroon for dessert. The shell was rather tough meaning it was either overbaked or was no longer fresh. Overall we didn't feel as if the quality of the food matched the price we paid for it. We've had better food that was slightly less expensive at restaurants very similar to this one. I see a lot of good reviews about this restaurant, however first impressions are important, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that we won’t be back to 8595 after ours. Jewlian was unprofessional and snarky from the very first conversation we had with him, even going so far as to ask me not to order condiments because he “didn’t feel like getting them” for us. Albeit, the restaurant was obviously understaffed and poorly managed due to the nature of the weather, but both Jewlian and his manager, who appeared to function more like a busser, had multiple chances to redeem the restaurant but failed to do so at every turn. Our drinks, two glasses of wine and a dirty martini, came to the table 45 minutes after we ordered home and at least 10 minutes after the food arrived at the table. Jewlian then informed us that a lot of his tables were waiting for drinks for long periods of time and he wasn’t going to bother the bartender because she would get mad and not make his drinks for the rest of the night. His words, not mine. Not to mention the gentleman who ordered a dirty martini was given a martini with a twist accompanied by a lame excuse and no offer to correct the mistake or replace the drink. It was not until we were visibly frustrated that anyone bothered to mention to us that the weather had impacted the functionality of the restaurant, an understandable setback. 1/2 the menu was unavailable, which we didn’t know until we had studied the menu for a good 15 and began ordering, the chicken was dry, the burgers were cooked to the wrong temperature, etc. Oh and we sat at the dinner table for the entirety of our visit with outerwear still on because they sat us by a fireplace that didn’t work, which Jewlian noticed and apologized for yet didn’t offer to move us to one of the 5 other tables available deeper into the restaurant. I hope on a normal day this restaurant functions at least better than an Applebees...

My wife and I had a wonderful date night dinner at the 8595 Restaurant inside the Partridge Inn. We went there during the week. They have different hours of service than I’m used to. They are open in the morning until 2ish for breakfast and brunch then they close until dinner time. Open at 5:00 pm then closed at 10:00 pm. You need to make reservations to get good seating. It’s a very elegant restaurant, and it has no dress code. The service is good and the food is excellent. My favorite is the duck fat fried chicken, and I washed it down with some freshly brewed southern sweet tea.

Chef Joe and his team are amazing cooks! The Partridge Inn was built in 1910 by George Walton, one of Georgia’s governors and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. It was his residence before it became the Partridge Inn. When it became a hotel, it had 60 rooms, and after 6 expansions, it had several different businesses in it after it became a hotel. On the first level it had a post office, barbershop,telegraph office, flower shop,bookstore, hairdressing parlor and drugstore. Lots of prominent people have been guests at this hotel. At the top floor it has an open air bar called Six South rooftop bar. It has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. You can enjoy your favorite alcohol beverage while taking in the breathtaking view of Augusta. The Partridge Inn is rumored to be haunted by Emily. She was a young wife of a soldier who was shot because they thought he was a treasonous soldier. He was falsely accused and killed on their wedding day.
