Went in for a quick bite. Right away host assumed I was there for pick-up. I respond " no just one." Host responds "oh" and leads me to a seat in the back of the restaurant. I ask for a booth closer to the TV, in which he hesitates but eventally obliges. At this point I feel a high sense that I am not welcomed here. Once sat the busser/cleaner brings me water and menu. I begin to ask her whats her favorite item on the menu to eat and suprisingly her interaction becomes hesitate and she starts to back away towards the kitchen but oddly stops to acknowledge my question but now she is standing about 3 feet behind me over my left shoulder. I tell her you can stand in front of me and speak, its very uncomfortable to look back over my shoulder to engage with you so far away. Very odd. At this time a server walks by and rudely interjects asking me "What do you want." I respond "im just asking which items she likes on the menu to get a good idea of whats really good here, are you ok bud? Whats your name? Server responds "Andy" " are you ready to order now" I respond "no of course im not ready, again are you ok? you come off very rude." I tell him " its ok im just going to leave." As I was walking out he turn back to the busser lady and started to curse me in chinese. Im not sure if it was racial but it was very off putting to experience something like this. What confirmed the unwelcoming feeling was as I was leaving the host and serveral other workers/managers behind the bar noticed I was leaving almost instantly but never ask why or made any effort to remedy the situation. They all just looked away and carried on with their duties like this was something that happens here a lot. I wish them all the best of luck in our country, but I would never spend my money here. Read moreEast China Inn was one of my favorite Chinese restaurants back in the day. It's been about 7 years since I've eaten here though, so I was very excited to be able to enjoy a tasty meal from them once again. Sadly, that excitement quickly turned into disappointment upon taking the first bite. The sesame chicken was very bland with only a few pieces of broccoli in it, and along with the BBQ pork, they were both dry and chewy. The food tastes nothing like the fresh, flavorful meals I was accustomed to years ago. Instead, all I experienced was bland, dry, unappetizing food, which I highly suspect is also being made from frozen ingredients that are stored in low quality plastic containers. I know many restaurants are hurting financially right now because of Covid-19, so I understand ingredient sourcing may be difficult, and that the temptation to freeze product is very enticing. Just freezing food alone changes its' flavor profile, but when coupled with low quality storage containers, it creates a specific "frozen" taste that's accompanied with dry, chewy meat and the flavor of plastic. I wish East China Inn the best, and hope that one day they will be able to make the delicious food I grew up on again, but sadly, I don't think I will be eating here again next time...
Read moreA friend and I decided to have a Friday night relax after work dinner at the restaurant. It was my first visit to the restaurant. We were seated right away and were given water and a pot of hot tea that they left at our table. I love tea so this was great for me . We ordered the crab Rangoon for an appetizer. They were the best I have ever had and the sauce they served with them made them more delicious! My friend and I both ordered the honey sesame chicken and we ordered veggie fried rice. I have had a lot of seseame chicken and this was again delicious. The rice was good as well. Our waiter was an older man and he was very solider like but he was on top of every thing we didnt need to ask for anything as he just knew what we needed. He was funny and very attentive. We enjoyed his personality and his prompt service. He even folded our to go bag in a Swan like design. I have no complaints at all. I have found my new go to and order out...
