An altercation took place just before closing on Sat May 10th. After UT’s graduation a father took his graduate and family to Amy’s. I know this because the daughter was still wearing her cap and gown. A woman was letting her (barefoot) 6 year old run around the store, poking, grabbing, and kicking people.
The kid made contact with the grad’s father (to what extent I’m not sure) however it was enough he felt like he needed to say something. All he asked of the mother was to be mindful of the child’s behavior amongst the crowded store. She then exploded on him and said that her kid had THE “RIGHT to exist”. She gave him a cold, callous stare while she picked up the kid.
Everyone there just froze and then this is where I think Amy’s workers were in the wrong. The situation seemed to have simmered down and the guy went back to ordering and then was promptly shut down by a worker telling him he needed to apologize to the mother. He did but after being publicly shamed for calling out the kid’s bad behavior, was guilted into leaving left the store. The kid then proceeded to grab other people.
All this gent did was enter a store to get ice cream and instead got shamed and kicked. I was disappointed to see this guy’s special night ruined due to lax and overly-permissive parenting.
The ice cream, as always was perfect. It just didn’t go down quite as...
Read moreThis review is a bit confusing to write because all ice cream is good ice cream, right? Amy’s is typically VERY good but the Oreo ice cream we had here was just flat out bad. It was almost as if someone took vanilla ice cream and thought about putting Oreos in it but they forget to actually put the Oreos in it since the taste just wasn’t there. The dark chocolate ice cream was absolutely great and the white chocolate cheesecake was delicious too.
The parking is good for the area and the service was very quick despite the small area the shop has indoors. The outdoor area is very nice to spend time at on a hot day with tables with umbrellas. One thing I will preface that last part with is the fact that this is a VERY kid friendly location, they even have a playground there. We brought our dog with us to sit outside and with a bunch of kids running around, you can guess where I’m going with this. This obviously is no fault of the ice cream parlor, just potentially something to be aware of.
Maybe it’s this location or maybe we’ve been riding the eternal high of being reviewers for far too long but we were left disappointed by this trip to Amy’s, hopefully yours won’t...
Read moreHate to do this here as ice cream is always great. But this tiny location was staffed by an inordinate amount of teenagers (4 females and 1 male) behind the counter and after asking my order (which I later had to repeat three times for the person ringing me up because they were chatting), they all turned their backs and talked about weekend plans. I regret tipping (but we all know what the pressure is like now with the auto-included tablet tipping you have to opt out of). I've been going to Amy's since I was a teenager and I remember the people behind the counter putting on a show and chatting to each other as well as the customer while crushing stuff into the ice cream — none of that here. On top of that, tiny location with no indoor seating and when I got the ice cream outside to my waiting husband (he was with our dog, and no dogs allowed inside), he commented how it was badly crushed in — huge piece of topping not mixed in. Amy's, try training your staff a bit better. Very disappointed at this experience of zero customer service (part of the pleasure of Amy's, besides the ice cream of course). Won't be coming back to...
