I live in South Austin and have been wanting to check this place out, and I finally got by there today! I did not try any of the Sando I came strictly for the sushi and I was blown away.
They make everything fresh that day and they have a limited selection and limited operating hours, but I was lucky when I got there at 12 noon, they had a great selection left, but I limited myself to two boxes. It was so filling, I really didn’t need two boxes, but it was so pretty and eyes got the best of me. No regrets.
The fish was top quality, I love eating at Uchi, Neighborhood Sushi, Soto, and Choo Sando had absolutely phenomenal quality fish. The flavor pairings were delicious different chilis and salts were on each fish.
I also thought it was really thoughtful that they include a miso soup and a full set up with homemade soy sauce, wasabi, ginger, chopsticks, etc. with each purchase. The take out boxes were also high quality and sturdy. Everything arrived home intact. It was a restaurant quality experience at my kitchen table.
10/10 can’t wait to go back. Prices were more than fair, it was around $25 for each box, which is insane to me as I’ve paid $10+ for a single piece of the same fish/equal quality nigiri at some of the other...
Read moreSUSHI FORWARD REVIEW This is easily one of the best sushi places in Austin! TOP THREE FOR SURE, AND GIVEN THE PRICE, PROBABLY THE BEST. Such great quality fish and everything was fresh I could taste it even hours later when I had it for dinner. I got the trio Toro box which had a variety of Toro sushi even came with some soup to entice the pallet. I cannot stress how beautifully presented the to go container was even the container was high-quality and I’m assuming recyclable. It’s a shame they close at around 2pm because it just feels right to eat this culinary delight for dinner, that’s the respect it deserves! What I would suggest is definitely pre-ordering and skipping that line: order a sandwich for lunch and as much sushi as you want to take home. Take that sushi home put it in the fridge, and have it for dinner as a date night, friends night or a self-help night. Thaw time 30-35 mins. There was a kind uncle working there, I asked him for some ice because I wanted to take it home fresh and he was ready for that request. He brought out a couple of packs of ice with a smile and was genuinely...

Excellent variety of boxes. My boyfriend and I tried the soft shelled crab and fatty tuna sandos. He also got the charsu box which he loved and said everything was very tasty and he loved the ikura. The rice was deliciously seasoned too. I got the negi toro and sake box and the sake was my favorite bites. They did something to the salmon, brushed it with seasoning and put some little garnish on top. Whatever it was made it FIRE and standout from salmon nigiri I’ve had at other restaurants. This place delivered Uchi vibes in a much more casual format.
Also loved the sauces they offered on the side. To me, it seemed like none of it was straight from a jar—which we noticed and appreciated!! Katsu sauce was so goooood and the mustard was creamy even though it just looked like standard grainy Dijon. The homemade soy sauce was a nice touch too. We also noticed all the picked veggies each had a unique pickled tasted so we appreciated the attention to detail there.
We loved it and will be back to...
