We stopped in for lunch at Galaxy CafĂŠ, and the food was awesome. I had the ZĂłcalo Burger and it was fire đĽâjuicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The sweet potato fries were also delicious đ¤¤, perfectly crisp and full of flavor. Iâd definitely recommend this spot for anyone craving bowls or burgers because the food really hits the mark.
That being said, I did notice some issues with the service. When we were ordering, there were two young employees (a boy and a girl) talking to each other instead of paying full attention to us. It came across as a little rude, and honestly, it felt like they could have waited until after taking our order to chat. Meanwhile, I noticed another girl working hardâcleaning tables, picking up trash, and staying busyâwhile the other two just stood around talking.
I always give tips, but at Galaxy CafĂŠ you order at the counter, get your own drinks, and then they bring the food. After seeing how the work was divided, I regretted tipping at the register because the person who really deserved it was the one hustling to keep the place clean. Itâs a bigger workplace issue in general: too often the hardest workers donât get recognized, while others just skate by. That can lead to high turnover and unhappy customers.
One last noteâthe water and sodas had a bit of a funny aftertaste. Not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning. Also, no pets are allowed here. Just a note to pet owners.
Overall, I give Galaxy CafĂŠ 4 stars. The food is excellent and I absolutely recommend it, but I think management could improve by delegating duties better and making sure customer service is prioritized. With a few adjustments, this would easily be a solid...
Read morefood: 5 stars atmosphere: 5 stars service: ?? I feel like this place is a case study in why counter service is just not a great idea for a restaurant. I am sure they have a reason why they do it but as a customer it feels disorganized and clunky. you don't have a waiter and order your food before sitting down, so you have to get your own drinks and refills. This means that at times the refill area was crowded with people. Also stuff ran out at the drink area and we had to find someone to refill it and it took a while. We ordered a specialty drink they had to make and since you don't have a waiter no one made the drink for us. It just got lost in the ordering process. We kept asking around people for it but since no one was our waiter no one wanted to step up to do it. we got it after we had finished our food. we would have ordered more food or drinks but since its counter service the line got super long and we didn't want to wait in line. so we just left. but we prob would have spent more money had it been a normal restaurant. Because of the counter service and the lack of wait staff I got the general feeling from the employees that they wanted you to eat and then leave as soon as possible. Which is cool but at the same time felt really rushed and lacked a personable feel to it. we got there pretty early and didnt struggle finding a place to sit but what happens if you order your food and dont have a table to sit at? Then the whole counter service thing just goes out the window. conclusions: brunch in Austin is crazy town. its incredibly busy and businesses are dealing with that in different ways. Is counter service the solution to that. nah I...
Read moreUnfortunately just very subpar in about every way. At least this place seems to be very self aware of the fact that they are where you end up when the hunger is too much and the line at Kerby Lane is too long, from the knock off mid century decor to the style of the menu. But dear reader, if you stumbled across this review in hopes of dodging a long wait time at Kerby in hopes for something decent I caution you that this is not it.
The prices are pretty outrageous. $4 for a single pancake with toppings. Now this wouldnât be so bad if this was the XL dinner plate sized pancake almost every other place that wants to be known for breakfast serves, but it isnât. Itâs the dinkiest, stingiest, smallest pancake on the planet. I fancy myself a decent cook and pancakes are probably one of the cheapest, easiest things to make. Why a brunch spot would be charging so much for itty bitty pancakes as if itâs A1 Wagyu is beyond me. Seriously, it would cost maybe 15-25 CENTS to increase these pancakes to an expected size.
I was also subjected to the saddest tasting migas Iâve ever eaten , which came with just two teeny tiny taco tortillas, and my BF had the Mediterranean breakfast, which neither one of us could figure out how exactly it fit the theme. Both plates lacked serious seasoning or interest whatsoever and both with portion sizes that just do not come close to other brunch spots in Austin for the price.
Speaking of price, $70 for two breakfast plates, a single pancake, two coffees, and a carafe of mimosa. Do better elsewhere and...
