Once upon a taco-less morning, I sauntered into this joint, tantalized by the promise of breakfast tacos that could sweep me off my feet. Visions of crispy bacon, fluffy eggs, and gooey cheese danced in my head as I eagerly placed my order: potato and egg with beans, cheese, and a slice of bacon in each tortilla.
The anticipation was akin to meeting a blind date for the first time - would we hit it off or end up in a heated debate over who makes the best tacos? Unfortunately, it was the latter.
With one bite, I was transported to aisle 7 at the grocery store, wrestling with clingy plastic wrap on a pack of discount, non-refrigerated tortillas. Surely, this couldn't be the grand taco affair I was promised!
As a proud native of the 956, Rio Grande Valley (where we take our tacos as seriously as our quinceañeras), I can attest to the authentic taste that should be present in a true breakfast taco. If that elusive 10 out of 10 taco is a precious gem, these tacos were a 2.
The vibe of the place and the pictures on the window lured me in, only to leave me with an unfulfilled taco craving and disappointment so heavy, it could sink the Titanic.
To sum it up, my breakfast taco journey at this establishment left me feeling like a lovesick fool who was catfished by a breakfast taco. If you're after that true, authentic taste, it's best to keep on looking - or simply hop on a plane to the 956.
As for the service, it was alright, but it's a pain to call a place to place an order and have it give you the busy signal. If you can afford to remodel your restaurant, then surely you can afford to make it so that your customers can be placed on hold while they wait for the cashier to finish...
Read moreThe place is clean. The waitresses are nice buuuut while I was going up to pay for my food and ask for a to-go box, the waitress threw away all my leftover food and I asked for what was left on my plate to be replaced and at first they said no. I don’t mean to be rude but when you pay $24 for a meal and they throw a lot of it away, you expect to get replacement food for free. They handed me one enchilada and the cashier said they were getting it for me. I said “no, I paid for that.” Then they argued with me about getting my beans and didn’t replace the guacamole that was also tossed. I felt some type of way when it was so hard to get more food. $24 ($19 something plus tip) is obnoxious for enchiladas to begin with but not to be able to take home the leftover food was hard on my emotions. They refused to let me speak to the manager and when I finally talked them into giving me my beans it was like half a scoop.
I don’t think I’ll be coming back to this place. That was embarrassing and it was way too expensive for that type...
Read moreMy wife and I were in Austin and saw this restaurant so we stopped by to give it a try and boy what a mistake it was. I had the Bistek Ranchero plate 12.50 and one beer, my wife got a small plate with only one crunchy taco, beef enchilada and rice and beans so it couldn't have been more than my plate with 2 Dr.Peppers that would've been 3$. Even if they charged 5$ for my beer the total would've been at most 33$ which is way more than it was. We were told $27 by the waitress then found a charge of $42 on my statement. I called the restaurant who said the price was correct. My loss for misplacing my receipt SO IF YOU DO PAY WITH A CARD YOU WILL BE CHARGED AN EXTRA 2$ AND KEEP YOUR RECEIPT SO THEY DON'T OVERCHARGE YOU. FIRST AND LAST TIME...
