Much like Pitchfork, I never give out a perfect score. I always find something that isnt quite there. But here I am doing that for Llama Kid. They have it all. Cebiche was better than perfect. Pisco Sour was perfect. Atmosphere was perfect (what they did with this patio is incredible if you knew it before). Pan flute was perfect. Service was perfect even on a busy friday. Food was very good (be warned large portions but I finished mine it was so good).
The final ingredient for me that pushed it into a perfect 5 star category was the "no dogs" sign at the host stand. I love dogs. Who doesn't? Dog owners that don't properly train their dogs and feel entitled to bring their four legged friend everywhere with them no matter how inappropriate are not something that I love. For once, I could enjoy a meal in this God forsaken town without witnessing two dogs fighting or snarling or walking into me or jumping on my table.
The couple in line behind me brought their overly engineered, expensive designer dog and were blocking the entrance with it, completely oblivious to how they were taking up important socially shared space. I casually stepped out of the way so they could see the sign. After seeing it, they hushedly whispered "no dogs?" and instead of turning around like decent humans, the host came back and they said "table for 2." He very politely informed them of the restaurant's policy and again, instead of apologizing and turning around, they said "even on the patio?" to which he politely explained one more time that they do in fact have this policy. They looked shocked that someone would do this and acted like they didn't even see the host as they wandered away muttering without an apology, completely dazed that someone didn't let them do something they wanted to do.
I shed a tear of joy. The host was not only friendly and organized, but a hero. I thanked him for his service and we had a lovely evening with friends. The best part is that the awful people came back without their dog! Take note restaurants of Austin, you too can do this without losing business.

Reading the other reviews, the only bad reviews for this place are people that brought their dogs and felt entitled to have them with them and that the rules don't apply to them, proving that dog owners in this town are truly some of the worst, most vindictive people (their dogs are still cool though, it's a shame they have such...
Read moreI had so many high hopes for this place but I was immediately disappointed.
The music... if you're going to have a live pan flute player you should either have them play with no speaker. If you're going to use a speaker have it elevated so it's not ridiculously loud. After a small moment of much needed silence where we could actually listen to each other talk you had a DJ play with 4 speakers all pointed at people's tables and the speakers were blown out. Again, if you're going to have a DJ have the speakers elevated above people's heads so it's not obnoxiously loud and have the DJ bring speakers that aren't blown out.
The food was delicious but I had a lot of problems with it. Yucca fries should not be $7. The pulpo anticuchero was good but I literally only got TWO pieces of octopus and 5 pieces of Yucca all for $25???? Nah lol it was good not worth $25. The serving size should've been an appetizer around $12-$15 with at least one more piece of octopus.
The cocktails were priced around $14. They were good but not worth $14.
The biggest problem I had is that we were seated and immediately asked the manager if we could be moved further away from the live music as it was too loud. We pointed to tables in the back and he informed us that they are only for parties of 8/10 people (we had six). We understood this but the entire time we were there the tables for 8/10 people were completely empty. The manager knew we were uncomfortable and could've moved us to one of the free 3 tables in the back.
Llama Kid does not take reservations so why not allow us to sit there? There was a line but obviously no one in line had a party of more than 7 people. Our experience would have been SO MUCH better if the environment wasn't so loud.
Y'all need to figure out what you want Llama Kid to be. Is it restaurant? Is it a club? Also please be consistent on your dog policy. I called and was told you were not dog friendly. There were multiple parties with dogs on your patio.
Such a shame. We won't be going back due to the environment created...
Read moreThis is NOT a peruvian restaurant. None of the dishes I tried were authentic peruvian food. Cocktails may be good. If you want to go somewhere to chill and have a drink, this may be the place. BUT definitely not to try peruvian food. The server did not even know what "cancha" was. I'm Peruvian and I love trying peruvian food everywhere I go. To start we ordered a wine bottle, and they did not have any wine glasses. After, we ordered ceviche, anticuchos and aji de gallina. We had to return the ceviche because it was just uneatable. The anticuchos are made of beef heart. They did not have that as an option, I was still trying to give them a chance and I had the beef anticuchos, when they came, it was raw food, with no anticucho sauce/flavor and no rocoto. It was simply fried beef, which I can easily make at home, no need for a fancy and expensive restaurant. I'm not form Austin, but if you want to try real delicious peruvian food, PLEASE do not go there. It's just another restaurant with crazy prices. They should not advertise themselves as a...
