This place has a lot of potential.
The open-air second story is a great feature, but the service needs improvement. If you want this spot to succeed, the staff needs to go above and beyond for customers. For example, if someone is seated upstairs—especially knowing there’s no bar there—checking in on them should be standard, no matter where their tab started.
They’re fortunate to be surrounded by well-established spots, which might help bring in foot traffic, even if just for a drink.
That said, the space itself is super cute and has a bit of that Rainey Street vibe. Whoever handled the decor did an amazing job.
The margaritas were fantastic, and the queso was also really good.
Service was decent overall, but I wish I didn’t have to keep going back to the bar for my drinks. Unfortunately, because I ordered at the bar first, there seemed to be no flexibility in service after that.
With some adjustments, this place could be great. The staff just needs to step up to make up for the restaurant’s logistical challenges.
As my buddy who lives in the area said “They missed the mark with upstairs, no bar, stage, restrooms. I like drifters...

The waitress that arrived had a total RBF and did not crack a smile or even really try and seem like she was happy to be there. We had a water and Diet Coke and the waitress said I need your card and said I’m going to hold onto that. When we ordered our food - a smash burger - it was amazing. And an impossible burger- equally amazing- I asked her to run my card and return it- don’t really see the need for my card to be held and open for a water, Diet Coke and 2 burgers. The waitress did return a few times but never had a smile or a pleasant thing to say. The owner? Bald guy stopped by with a big smile and super friendly - appreciated that and should have given the feedback on the spot. But yes maybe the staff could be more welcoming....
Read moreIf you're not hitting up Lower 48 in South Austin, you're seriously missing out! We rolled in last night for Taco Tuesday, and let me tell you—it was an absolute blast. The vibe was on point, the crowd was great, and the energy was just right for a midweek hang.
But let’s talk about those drink specials—🔥🔥🔥! They are so good it almost feels like you're getting away with something. I mean, ice-cold margaritas and killer beer deals that keep the good times rolling without breaking the bank? Yes, please!
The tacos were delicious (obviously), but the real star of the night was just how much fun we had being there. From the friendly staff to the music and overall atmosphere, Lower 48 knows how to throw down a Tuesday night party. We’ll definitely be back—and probably bringing a few more friends next time!
Do yourself a favor and check it out. You won’t...
