Saturday afternoon, about 2:30. Beautiful day, perfect for tacos. Got front row parking, too! An order of salsa and a order of queso to start us off, with a cold Sprite to wash it down. I got the Chicken Fajita tacos, the fella got the Trailer Park tacos, both with flour tortillas. (Pics of Chicken Fajita tacos.) *Pro tip - scoop some of that yummy queso onto your taco. You won't be mad! I didn't try the salsa, but the queso was the bomb diggity. Hooray for fresh cilantro. Yay for just enough hot sauce to give it a bite without hurting me. A+ for Cotija cheese. I'm not really one to say I love avocado, but the dollop of guacamole was welcomed as well. The tacos were just full enough to be satisfied, but not make a huge mess with everything falling out when ya bite into it. Good ratio of meat to toppings/veggies. It was a bit juicy so holding it over the tray to catch drips was a must, but 10/10 worth the effort.
The parking lot was kinda full, but expected for lunchtime on a Saturday. Most of the people I saw were out on the patio. It was super perfect weather for outdoor dining so that makes sense. We stayed indoors, though, because indoors was quieter and less populated.
Our chips & dips came out quickly, and the tacos came just a few minutes later. Long enough to enjoy some light snacking, but not get full before the actual meal arrived. The server was polite for the few seconds he was at the table to drop off our baskets. He fulfilled his obligation and left us to eat in peace. It was good.
I didn't see but just a couple employees masked up, but there was also minimal interaction between pretty much everyone.
Didn't visit the washroom so nothing to report on cleanliness there, but the rest of the dining room was clean, and the drinks station was tidy. Parking lot free of random debris.
I liked that the "take it home" supplies were readily available at the drinks station so I could package up what we had left how I like (I'm picky so that's cool...)
Was a good visit. I get to Austin a couple few times a month (from Magnolia - 135 miles) so we always go out for a meal while I'm here. Glad to add Torchy's...
Read moreMy first time at this location. Food was amazing as always but there were a lot of issues that no one seemed to care much about. First, when I went to order my meal (including beer since this is a full bar location) they only allowed me to order to food at the counter, then beer at the bar. Said the bartender requested this. (An aftemlt to get more bar sheriff tips?) Other locations you can do both at the counter so I found this cumbersome. When I went to the bar to order a beer, the tap was broken for the beer I wanted. I specifically went to this location because they have Pinthouse on tap according to their website but I guess it wasn't working? I ordered a second IPA, that too was broken. A third, broken. No reprieve, no discount, in just had to order a beer I want thrilled about. All good. This stuff happens but it's not what I was expecting.
Second, I ordered 5 tacos for my family and I. Only 4 came. When I went to say something, they apologized which was great, and offered to expedite it. But at this point, I was a little frustrated. They refunded me on my card after waiting in a long line but it was brushed off quicky.
Third. We asked for queso with no spicy sauce in it as it was for our kids. As you can guess, it had the spicy sauce in it. Kids weren't in love but I guess that was the last of my concerns at that point.
Lastly, I do love Torchy's so I won't go lower tha. 3 stars, but yeesh, this was one of the roughest gos I've had.
Felt similar things about the DT location. Quality control seems to be skipping now that the chain has grown so immensely.
Love you torchys but...
