Minus one star for charging for chips.
Minus one star for the rude and unprofessional staff as well as a clunky and lazy ordering system.
Food was really good and great depth of flavor. I got mole tacos and the Al Pastor. Really great tacos and up there with some of the best in town.
I ordered guacamole and it did not come with chips. I went up to the window and asked for them and was told I needed to order chips. So, had to wait 10 minutes back in line to order chips separately. Not only did they charge for chips, they over charged. After tax almost $3. And they weren’t all the way fried and were soggy. What did they think? Do people eat guacamole with a spoon? The guacamole itself is already expensive. I don’t know a single other taco place in austin who upcharges for chips. Maybe this is the California infection in austin rubbing off. Just include the chips! This became a frustrating experience for something so small. Won’t forget it.
By the time I finally got my chips my tacos had cooled down a bit, tortillas got soggy, and my party was waiting.
The ordering system is beyond clunky. The “cashier” doesn’t do anything. I’m used ordering there previously and speaking for my order. Instead, I had to navigate their POS system and figure out my food. Very frustrating and not very user friendly. The person working behind the window was grumpy, rude, impatient, and you couldn’t hear him behind his face diaper. And since I had to reorder for overpriced chips, had to go through it twice.
Also, they don’t take cash.
It’s in a cute park and a great vibe. I will certainly think twice before returning however. Not worth the high price, crowd, or parking situation for some basic trivial things...
Read moreLove the location , like tacos , hate service specifically in this location. Not once i had nice interaction with the girl who is usually in the front . For any asked question you get such a rude response like how dare i ask for anything. I don't understand why i need to feel guilty asking for extra salsa ? Some time ago i ordered guacamole assuming it will come with chips. Waited for 40+ minutes , got just guacamole, went to ask if they might have forgot to give the chips. She said that i should have been ordering them separately and if i want chips i need to place a second order and wait another 40 minutes to hand me a pre-packed back of chips .
First of all, the girl needs some training . I see that i'm not the only one impressed by her . Second , the price on tacos is above average. Ok, just raise prices for 25c more and just give extra salsas whenever someone ask .
We come there pretty often for the last year ,each time left with awful customer experience and today wan't...
Read moreI've tried them twice and it just isn't my thing. Once you find it and fight for parking, here's the low down. The good- the tortillas are probably the best in town. Super, duper fresh. The bad- the fillings are not. The El Sancho has that weird chewy chorizo that is that fake pink color. Ick. The Pastor meat wasn't cooked low and slow, so the fat hadn't melted away. The beans were bland and dry. It is also difficult to hear your name being called when your order is ready. Expect an atmosphere of kids running a muck, they have a play area. My friend absolutely loves this place... to each their own. Austin is full of tacos to choose from and you're guaranteed to find your favorite versions. The Taco Deli Otto and Puerco Verde, the Shack Taco from Taco Shack, and the Pastor from El Montenegro are among my favorites. I wish Veracruz a long and healthy life, they have many fans. I'm just not one of them and...
