Caswell Tennis Center — Attraction in Austin

Poor management. The courts are nice and this is actually a nice club. The reason for one star is the inadequate management. I called on a Friday and reserved the ball machine for Saturday and Sunday. Since the availability of the machine is limited I rearranged my schedule to be able to use the ball machine. On Saturday on the way over I was running 10 min late so I called to let them know I was on my way. The person who answered the phone told me they did not have my name and there was no reservation for either days under my name and the machine is no longer available. After I explained to him he told me there was nothing he could do and the other person simply forgot to put my name in the system. No apology, nothing. A simple apology would I have been nice. The best tennis center in Austin by a mile. The longtime owner is a great guy and cares about the business, he is there all the time and makes sure things are taken care of, he has pride in the facility and it shows. The pros and shop staff have all been there for a while, low turnover is a sign of good management. I’ve attended many events there as well, they create a great sense of community at Caswell. Their rules, cancellation polices etc. are fair and they make me feel like a valued customer. This is the complete opposite of the other public facilities in town. This is my favorite place to play tennis in Central Austin. The courts are clean and free of cracks. Windscreens help to reduce gusts on the courts, and the lights at night keep the courts and parking lot well illuminated. Court fees don't exceed $5 if you have an opponent. Hours of operation go till 10 pm on weeknights, which is great during the summer. In order to make a reservation, you must call two days in advance, but cancellations do occur, so you might get lucky. If your racquet needs new strings, the staff on site can hook you up.
