Update: Shortly after posting the original 3 star review below, they were able to reach out via email, and let me know that it was a chef mistake that night, I assume it was probably a new chef in training or something, and they ended up having several complaints about the General Tso's sauce that night. They let me know they had fixed the issue since that night. They also offered me a $15 credit on my next order, which I used either that night or the next, and they definitely had fixed the sauce issue, and LOVED how courteous, friendly, and concerned they were about my bad visit. I regret not updating this review before now. They are now my go to Chinese take out restaurant, I even felt the need to introduce my out-of-town friends to their food recently I love it so much! Updating my review from 3 stars to 5 stars, love Tso Chinese Delivery!
Original review:
Overall very good restaurant, 2 out of 3 times, but see below. I've ordered 3 times now, first time I believe the week they opened, and again now the past two nights. Only ever tried their General Tso's because it is my favorite American Chinese dish. Ordered General Tso's Chicken with fried rice and had a coupon for free potstickers, and they were either having problems with their site at the time, or because my location was at the very edge of their delivery at the time, I had problems with their site ordering. They ended up calling me to let me know, and offered me a free egg drop soup for the problems. Super kind and apologetic. I happily accepted, and received my order within 30 mins. HUGE portions of General Tso's Chicken, decent fried rice, and the potstickers were FANTASTIC, the soy sauce based dipping sauce they had was really good too. General Tso's sauce was great, though the chicken could've been a tad crispier, but overall great! Love that though they use plastic containers, the containers make great tupperware, as they are dishwasher and microwave safe!
Second time I ordered night before last, I ordered General Tso's Tofu, Hot and Sour Soup, and veggie eggrolls. No problems ordering on the site this time, and coverage expanded slightly so no problems with my address (except trying to navigate the driver to my apartment, through no fault of his own, my complex is tricky) and received the food within 40 minutes of ordering. General Tso's sauce was again, fantastic, tofu was good, a tad chewy but good flavor, and again HUGE portions! Hot and Sour Soup was good, and veggie egg rolls were as well, though I would've preferred the potstickers sauce instead of the sweet and sour sauce to dip them in, while it was good, got a little too sweet.
BUUUT this last time I ordered General Tso's Tofu again, with extra broccoli and extra fried rice on the side (it was all so good the night before) and I dont know if it was because i ordered extra broccoli (which btw, I dont recommend, its $1 extra and I didn't see a difference from the night before) or what it was, but I don't think I got General Tso's sauce on it this time, even though that was what I ordered. It was super runny and flavorless, no sweetness or spice, whereas before it was a thick, goopy, lovely sauce that was sweet, garlicky, and spicy in all the right ways. I think I might've gotten brown sauce in mine instead? Maybe the extra broccoli request made them think it was Broccoli Tofu (another dish of theirs) instead of General Tso's Tofu? Not sure, but was very disappointed, especially since I was craving more of what I had gotten the night before. Will probably order from them again, but I'm gonna wait a while before giving them another try. I dislike they have a phone number, but it just repeats "you cannot order over the phone, visit our website" over and over, no way to report that the order was wrong. Hopefully next time I get the great food I have started to become used to getting...
Read moreI am not sure which location our delivery comes from so I will leave a review for both. It was that bad the business deserves it.
I have ordered from Tso’s I would say 25 times if not more it’s never great, but it’s somewhere between edible and okay. It’s just very convenient with delivery that makes it worth it sometimes. Unfortunately, not anymore.
Whoever cooked the food today around this time should be fired 100%. All four items were just awful, not even edible. We got the world famous crab ragoons (world famous lol), tasted sour and microwaved, hope we don’t get sick. Duck wings, about one bite of meat per wing and they are twice the size of average chicken wings, also seemed like the batter was boiled in water. General tsos shrimp, I am 90% sure they did not even fry them after they were dipped in the batter, I am really not kidding it tasted like eating pancake batter. Lastly, vegetable melody (just vegetables sautéed in sauce, $14 btw), how do you mess this up? Well, let me tell you, put 80% sauce and 20% vegetables and make it into the highest sodium stew/soup you will ever have in your life and don’t forget to overcook the vegetables.
The food has gotten worse the more I have ordered it over the past year and a half, but as mentioned at the top it’s been edible. We threw todays order away after we realized everything was bad. I’m not sure if Ill risk blowing $65 on two take out meals ever again from Tso’s. There are way too many options in Austin, 1618, 888, Tatsu-ya, etc. etc. etc.
This was also not from the delivery so the cook can not blame it on that we had the food here in 30 minutes which is average. So whoever cooked the food don’t use that excuse. Delivery is always great.
You can see the pictures attached, 9 small shrimp for $16 and some very gross looking...
Read moreGreat website and tracking, took Google pay, had a chat box, fast delivery and food was excellent. Veggies seemed extremely fresh. They had a huge Vegetarian/vegan/gf menu section with very clear labeling. Love the no Tipping policy and free delivery. We actually do not eat out since places pay their employees trash and rely on tips so this was a treat for us. This place represents how others need to adapt to the changing social environment.
4/30/23:
Dang, I hate when a great place starts to dip in quality. Last order was awful. I always get the tofu drunken noodles and apparently they changed the noodles at some point. They are now awful, hard/break apart, and hold no sauce. The dish was just spicy and oily and I couldn't even find any Thai basil. Tofu and vegetables were horrible under cooked. I srsly thought I got the wrong dish but was informed "you can see the noodles change in the picture on the site". Honestly who is going to notice that? I threw half out because it was dripping in neutral cold oil and than ended up throwing up the rest. Their solution was to give me $15 on my account like I want to come back after that. Additionally, the rice we got was def old and hard. My spouse's dish was subpar and disappointing according to them. So either they have a new cook that no one is quality checking on or they've just stopped caring about the product they put out. Disappointment. (also the time before this they sent beef drunken noodles to my work and I had to wait another hour for them to bring the tofu version which at that time was still good. Considering this was a diff location though, seems like whole...
