First, the Avalon Brew Pub does not even deserve one star. This is the absolute worst restaurant i have ever been to with not one positive aspect at all. Our waitress asked the table for drinks and I was the only one who decided to stick to water. When she came back, i had already poured the water for myself when she should have done it herself. She gave me a diet coke when i never asked for one. Next, the food. There were a handful of flies which kept landing on our food. Absolutely disgusting!!!! The atmosphere was awful as all the employees had no smiles on their faces and looked like zombies out of the Walking Dead. Only one guy was happy to the point he creeped me and my family out and I did not want him around the kids. I ordered a fillet minion which was $33. The steak was overcooked, and the entire meat was inedible unless you like eating sticky gooey white slabs of fat. This was totally unacceptable as the meal was so expensive. Along with all of this, on the menu they listed broccoli under the fillet. The waitress said they didn’t have any and they had broccolini instead. I understand that the two are similar, but when I saw it, it looked completely different and I disliked the taste. If you don’t have something available why is it on the menu? The service was horrendous, the food was trash, and last but sadly not least we were scammed. We laid out half cash and left our room number. They took the cash and charged the whole bill to the room. We were scammed out of over $80. I will never ever go back to that restaurant, even if my life depended on it. Even though we had this bad experience, the overall vacation was wonderful. The resort is beautiful and I definitely would recommend everything there except for the Brew Pub. Hotel service is quick and the workers are very friendly and polite: a pleasure to be around. If future customers are reading this, please take your money else where as there are many other delicious options nearby. Thank you for nothing...
Read moreDisappointing and disgusting! My husband was looking forward to the “Pan Seared Scallops with wild mushroom risotto English peas and mushroom cream”, when our meals were served they gave him a plate of mashed potatoes with 4 scallops plopped on top. The server said “we don’t have the risotto I hope this is ok”. It looked AWFUL! Totally unappetizing, and NOT AT ALL what was ordered. Not even close. And I found it pretty bold of them to assume that mashed potatoes would be “ok” and just serve it to you without giving you a choice. It seriously looked like a scoop of cafeteria style mashed potatoes with a little row of scallops literally plopped on top. Gross. We weren’t informed about the risotto at the time we ordered so while everyone else ate, he waited an extra 30 minutes! 30 minutes! for his new order to be served. He went with the “Airplane Chicken” which had no jus. The fish and chips I ordered did not have grilled lemons or citrus aioli. It had one tiny raw slice of lemon that was mostly rind and barely any lemon. I asked for more lemons, waited 10 minutes to eat since I like lemon added, it really brightens the flavor of the fish... after 10 minutes waiting for a lemon I got up from my seat found our server and asked again so I could actually start my meal. The “citrus aioli” was literally plain mayonnaise. Not to mention we are here on the brink of what they call “cozy season” which is the off season, so the dining room had 4 other tables occupied and we had to wait 10 minutes for a hostess to even appear. Terrible. My expectations were not high but the menu descriptions seemed to be at least elevated pub fare. However, what is on the menu, is clearly not what is served. Beware! And nothing was comped. That’s just poor customer service. I can’t believe they charged the full $28 for the chicken after completely messing up the original order then delaying our meal by half an hour and thus- kids bedtime. All parents know how...
Read moreWe are guests at the Icona Avalon. We made reservations for 2 at the Avalon Brew Pub adjacent to the property for an early dinner on July 29, 6 pm. For some inexplicable reason, the hostess decided we should be seated in one of those hideous banquette tables where one sat on a cushioned seat against the wall and the other sat uncomfortably in a chair with their back against the room. To compound matters, this hostess placed us claustrophobically on top of an adjacent couple dining in similarly uncomfortable circumstances. Meanwhile there were multiple open tables in the restaurant, including several more private two-person tables. We rejected the awkward table we were initially shown to in favor of the more private two-person table we weren’t initially offered. The couple adjacent to the table we were initially offered looked relieved, as the proposed seating would have been a virtual foursome. Why did they do this? Especially as we had advance reservations? Why would they give a more private table for two to someone without reservations (which was apparent as many tables were vacant throughout our dining experience.) The food was at best adequate and our server (Grace) was good (and we tipped accordingly), but the hostess exercised really poor judgment and hopefully didn’t share in the tip we left as she really upset us to the point that I barely touched my food. I won’t be returning...
