Mariscos Las Playitas — Restaurant in Avondale

In search of a good mariscos restaurant, I came across this one on Google and read some of the reviews. So we went. First impression was not positive. Upon walking in, waitress and a cook saw us from the kitchen, but didn’t greet us. They actually looked pretty unhappy. At this point I was regretting it a bit, but gave it a shot. We ordered a 7 mares caldo (combination seafood soup) and a mojarra frita (fried tilapia) plate. Their salsa with their chips was not homemade, I could taste the canned tomato in the salsa. Food came, it looked pretty good. 7 mares was ok, the shrimp in it didn’t look fresh. I could taste the canned chili/tomato (el pato) sauce in it. The mojarra was ok, the beans tasted as if they were going bad. The horchata also tasted as if it was going bad. I asked about a menu item and the waitress didn’t have any knowledge of the entrée. I wouldn’t go back. Coming from owning a family authentic Mexican food restaurant, I can say that they need to improve in many ways. Just a warm and courteous greeting can make a huge difference. We drive by here all the time. It doesn’t seem very appealing from the outside. The inside very much feels like a place in Mexico that I love and old school corridos playing that remind me of my grandpa. We typically go to another spot for our marisco fix but the place was packed and decided to give this place a try. I’m so glad we did because the food was fantastic! A plus for me, is that their shrimp cocktail already comes with Avocado and no up charge like other places. The ceviche flavors were truly on point! My fiance and I shared our meals and we both agreed we will now be visiting this place more often. Especially since it only a couple of miles from our house. Waitress was very rude with an attitude. I explained to her I want chicken taquitos, she said chicken tacos 🌮 I said no flautas or rolled tacos they call them different things, she raised her voice said you should've said 🤷‍♀️ salsa was made with tomato 🍅 sauce (not good), rice had little flavor, the beans tasted canned. chicken little flavor, hard taco shells.
