Arizona Cafe — Restaurant in Bakersfield

Very disappointed with the quality of the food and service! First off we weren't greeted at all when we entered the Cafe then when we finally approach a waiter and ask if we just sit at any table he points to a small clipboard on the wall and tells me to write my name on it and how many people I'm with. So after waiting a good 25 minutes we finally were sitted. So we order and get our food and my Chile Verde was so over cooked as if they put it in a microwave I couldn't believe it! So I ask to speak to the manager and he came as if he was already knew what I was going to tell him like he was prepared to hear what I was gonna say. So I tell him " Man this Chile Verde is so over cooked!" And he looks down at my half eaten plate and says "Well you at most of it you still have to pay for it!" So I told him "Look I'm not looking for a discount or anything I'm just letting you know!" And his smart remark back was "Well I sold 300 plates today and haven't heard anything!" After hearing that I just told him I'm not looking to debate with you just give me my receipt! Being that he was a manager I expected him to be way more courteous and helpful as to ask me how we can resolve the situation. Instead I get a defensive arrogant kid who was extremely rude and disrespectful in front of my mother. He had no shame and such a lack of compassion as he smirked at me walking away after I told him to just bring my receipt. This is no way to treat customers at all wether they are new or been coming for a long period of time! This establishment has changed majorly over the past couple years and not for the good. And this will be the last time I ever bring my business here or spend another dollar with them.

My best tip is to just go somewhere else cause this place has lost its reputation for great food and awesome customer service. And it breaks my heart to say that but I rather save my town the trouble then to allow this place...

I'd always heard about this place and people raved about it which is why I was surprised to find that my visit was less then favorable?! I ordered a combo plate with a shredded beef taco and chile relleno. As the server made her way to our table I immediately noticed that the shell to my taco was a regular store bought shell and not house made which already disappointed! When she put my plate down, another surprise, the chile relleno was plain and dry, which if you know about rellenos, they're typically served in a homemade tomato sauce. I thought, ok maybe this is a different style so I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Took my first bite into it and it of course was dry and flavorless! I moved onto my shredded beef taco, the meet was so, so dry.. I look over at my husband who had ordered a chile Verde burrito and he wasn't looking to excited himself. Looks at me and says, it's red sauce on my chile "Verde" burrito?! Granted, some places do use red instead of green but any time we go somewhere and he sees chile Verde, he gets excited because it's one of his favorite dishes! Needless to say, it was not the experience we were looking for being our first time there. The place was packed though and people love it! It's a mom and pop kinda place in Old Kern County, a staple if you will, so I think the more reason I was hoping for a better experience?! But be your own judge, maybe it just wasn't my day...

I always wanted to come here because I have heard many great things about this place. Unfortunately that was not our experience. I ordered Huevos Rancheros with Chile Verde. The chile verde was watered down. The few pieces of meat I got was mainly bones and bone cartilage. The rice was dry and had no flavor. We also ordered the Chilaquiles with meat and the meat was extremely greasy and tasteless. The area where the restaurant is located is rough. There is homeless walking around and sleeping on the sidewalks near the restaurant. The only place we saw to park our car was on the street in front of the restaurant. I am not sure if we will return to give this place another chance. We really wanted this place to work out and be our new go to place for Mexican food. Maybe we caught them on a bad day? Hopefully that was the case because I do hear and read nothing but good things about this restaurant. If we do come back and try it again and our experience is great. I will make sure to come back and...
