Birrieria El Michoacano — Restaurant in Baldwin Park

Tried this spot cause I was across the street waiting for a repair on my tablet. The storefront definitely caught my attention, but did go into this spot expecting nothing. For starters the food isn't bad per se, but there also isn't anything in particular that stood out. Got the chilaquiles plate with eggs and birria de res. Honestly I'm not 100% sure but the tortillas they use for the chilaquiles were interesting; I couldn't identify whether they were totopos (Nacho chips) or they fried their own tortillas. The birria was a little on the dryer side so I asked for a side a sauce and they gave me a tiny 0.5oz container of sauce that honestly did leave quite a bit to be desired; but also the sauce was not that good to begin with.. I'm gonna be completely honest and say that I did feel a soapy after taste in the sauce. Not sure if something happened in the prep or maybe that's the flavor profile it has. Birria though also didn't have too much flavor but again the dryness of it was what was most apparent. Rice and beans decent, eggs well they're eggs. The sauce on the chilaquiles was a little runny for my liking but not bad. Overall place isn't bad, but also isn't great. Service was decent nothing out of the ordinary; people seemed to just be doing their jobs. We came in with a family of 9 asults today... we are birria lovers.. we were very disappointed on the quality, service and cleanliness. There were to many flies once we started eating. I order 2 ice waters to start of for me. The cups were dirty along with the water had food particles... very disgusting. I told the tall, thin Hispanic lady and she told me it wasn't. Their food was very reasonable priced and tasted great. We ordered a menudo (which I wish I'd ordered with hominy) that was well made, flavourful, and delicious; two birrias (res and chivo) which had a great aroma, good taste and went well with rice; as well as a bistec con huevo, which was also well prepared and delicious. My family really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend them. It was very good. Even their fresh waters were light...
