There's something to be said of a place that serves just one type of dish. The beauty of Gil's is you get exactly what it says on the box, pizza. Don't want pizza? Go somewhere else.
After reading the good reviews I tried it for the first time today. The store isn't huge or flashy, just a little place that was staffed by one person at the time (I can only assume it was Gil.) It's about the size of a small house, but clean and well organized. Now that those things are out of the way, now it's on to the bread and butter, the food.
A 12" pizza is about $10.25 or so, a little more expensive than some other local joints who sometimes offer a 16" for $8-11. However, after trying Gil's I'd take that 12" pizza over other places 16" any day. The crust, cheese, and sauce ratio is perfect. The cheese is a good quality, the sauce is tangy, herby, with a touch of sweet. Very well balanced. I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to pizza crust, but this one really hit all the marks. It has a subtle sweetness, a nice crisp, and a great chew. Very rarely do I eat the crusts, but I was happy to do so with this.
I've been hankering for a proper New York style pizza to no avail. Tonight my craving was finally satiated. A beautifully floppy "fold it in half" slice, with quality ingredients, and balanced flavors. I promise if you decide to try out a slice from Gil's, you will be more than satisfied. I'll definitely be...
Read moreWas looking for a place to re-experience anchovy on pizza since years and years ago, so I got a half sausage half anchovy pizza with meat sauce. The box was clearly labelled which half was which. I am glad to say the anchovy side was pleasant and not nearly as overbearingly salty as I remember from another place. The sausage was good too. The pizza itself is great, a nice light and airy pizza with the right amount of crispiness. Dough is a bit on the thinner side but I enjoy that. The meat sauce was tasty as well and the cheese/toppings did not come with a layer of grease. The toppings are underneath the cheese which keeps them in place within the blanket of cheese. The sauce is flavorful without being overbearingly sweet or heavy. I personally also enjoy that the website front for this business is just one page, which is the contact information and what's on their menu, which is three items; 12 inch cheese pizza plus what toppings they offer, their deluxe pizza, and soda. Communication was quick and to the point, no fuss. You order your pizza and you pick it up with no issues. I even got a punch card :)
It's all around a good place that'll fit your basic lunch needs for one or two people per pizza that shouldn't disappoint. I...
Read moreWow, the cheese tastes so good here. The meat sauce was the best I have had, the combination of flavors was off the charts. People where about their pizza and the prices are fair. My only knock(not even a knock) is it’s a little sloppy how the ingredients can come off and pull with the cheese. But this can happen sometimes, not their fault. Also, I like thin but this is almost too thin. I’m sure a better cut job would have fixed this problem so I can’t take anything away because it’s not the pizza it’s self’s fault. Sometimes the way cheese melts, when you cut it, the cheese just slips back over the cut and re connects.... it happens, not their fault. I give it over a 4.5 but not an exact 5. But since there isn’t 4.5 stars to select I’ll give em the 5. My exact rating is real high at 4.7-4.8. Buy with confidence people this place is exactly properly rated imho....
