Honu Poke — Restaurant in Batavia Township

After a disappointing experience at a local Poke Bros I looked on Google maps to identify the highest rated Poke joint in the area and Honu Poke had a stellar rating. The best Poke I've ever had in my life has been on the Hawaiian islands where this dish hails from. I recognized the word "Honu" as a Hawaiian term which I believe means something like "wisdom of the sea turtle" but it may just mean turtle. I ordered 2 of the Jumbo Hawaiian Bowls with extra Spicy Tuna and boy was I satisfied! I was pleased to see the gentleman working there going in the back to retrieve fresh ingredients for almost every topping and marinating the tuna before placing it in the bowl. It only takes a moment and it makes a big difference in the taste.

I got one for my spouse and one for myself. I have quite an appetite and even after an intensive workout I was only able to eat half and save the bowl for lunch the following day. I suggest those ordering online request extra sauce to add in as they wish. Considering my bowls were jumbos with several extra toppings it would have been virtually impossible to add the right amount of ponzu without over saturating the dish. A few packets of soy added a savory salt to the citrus profile and balanced the dish making the umami flavor pop. For the price and the taste this is about as good as one can find outside of catching your own tuna and having a Hawaiian restaurant...

Saturday was a first time for my husband & I. Walking in I noticed it had a setup kind of like at subway with everything laid out at a bar for you to see & choose from. There was one young man working there named Jose that was so amazing with explaining everything to us from start to finish. Honestly Jose did such a great job on making our 1st experience something to not forget. We were told about how they are SMALL FAMILY OWNED 💪🏽 & how hard they work on their house made sauces (which are delicious!) We both ended up building our own bowls. Next time I’m 100% choosing one of the options they offer now that I know this place is BOMB!! The 2 proteins I ended up picking were salmon & spicy tuna. Lastly let’s talk …MOCHI 🍡 This place has SO MANY options on flavors it’s crazy & they also do flavors of the month so ask about that while you’re there. I’m obsessed with the Ube, Coconut & Sweet Cream flavors OouuWeee I will be back for more !! Get you some!! Don’t walk RUN!! 🏃‍♀️💨

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Honu Poke and was thoroughly impressed. The sushi rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned, providing a delicious base for the fresh and flavorful toppings. The shrimp and spicy chicken were cooked to perfection and complemented each other beautifully. The Lava Blaze sauce added a fiery kick that perfectly balanced the other flavors. Every bite was a burst of deliciousness that transported me to the native land of Hawaii.
