A True Culinary Delight - A Review of Black Pepper Lounge
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Black Pepper Lounge, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. As a connoisseur of authentic flavors and traditional recipes, this restaurant truly exceeded my expectations.
From the moment I walked in, the ambiance enveloped me in a warm and inviting embrace. The thoughtfully designed decor perfectly matched the theme, creating an atmosphere that was both comfortable and in line with the cuisine they serve.
The highlight of my visit was indulging in the Onam Sadya, a feast that was an absolute delight for my taste buds. The attention to detail in preparing each dish was evident, and the result was a spread of truly authentic recipes that transported me back to the heart of traditional Kerala cuisine.
Among the array of dishes I savored, the pachadi, pulichery, sambar, adai pradhaman, and payasam stood out as exceptional. The balance of flavors, the use of fresh ingredients, and the skillful execution of these traditional recipes showcased the dedication of the culinary team to preserving the rich heritage of Kerala’s cuisine.
However, it wasn’t just the food that left a lasting impression on me. The service provided by the staff was impeccable. Their attentiveness and genuine passion for ensuring a memorable dining experience were evident in every interaction. It’s not often that you find a restaurant where the service matches the quality of the food, but Black Pepper Lounge managed to achieve just that.
In a world where authenticity can sometimes be hard to come by, Black Pepper Lounge shines as a true gem. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s a gateway to the flavors and traditions of Kerala. I left the restaurant not only satisfied but also with a newfound appreciation for the depth and richness of Indian cuisine.
If you’re looking for a place that combines exceptional taste, quality, and a genuine commitment to preserving culinary heritage, I wholeheartedly recommend Black Pepper Lounge. Whether you’re a connoisseur of Indian cuisine or simply someone looking to explore new flavors, this restaurant is sure to leave you with an...
Read moreWe ordered the Kerala Meals but found the portions quite small. The sambar came in the same tiny bowls as the sides, and with only sambar, daal (usually served with roti), and rasam, it didn’t feel like enough for the rice. Shared this as constructive feedback with the owner, but he mentioned that the quantity was sufficient for one meal, pointed out the affordable pricing, and he suggested adding extra sides for .99 cents. Even as someone who eats little rice, the portions felt insufficient and didn’t quite justify the price. Interestingly, the sambar served with the idly came in a slightly larger bowl, more in line with what we would typically expect with a rice plate. Just sharing this so others know what to expect when ordering.
Edit: Dear Owner, Thanks for your response. I am not unrealistic to expect 1 meal portion to be enough for 2 people, my feedback was solely about the portion size for 1 person compared to other places and I stand by it. I'd also like to mention that, we ordered the dish based on Google photos, which made it look well-portioned, but the bowls we received were much smaller, unless the sizes have changed or the photos didn’t reflect the actual size. I hope more guests try the dish and form their own opinion.
Regarding the "Out of Order" sign, I believe there has been a misunderstanding, as no one in our group recalls seeing such a sign, and we only used the restroom to wash our hands. It may have involved another group, but if this did happen unintentionally (by my child), I’m happy to apologize. Regardless, concerns like this should have been raised directly with us during our visit, as this is the first time I am hearing about it, mentioning it only in a negative Google review response feels unprofessional. It is disappointing to see such allegations included in a public reply following a negative review. We appreciate your commitment to authentic Kerala cuisine and look forward to...
Read moreIf you crave some authentic Kerala food, this is the place to go to. Everything we had was excellent. Starting from chicken 65 to beef fry, appam, mutton stew, pothichor etc. They reminded me of the delicious food we got back home in Kerala. The dessert was the star. We had achappam crumble. I wondered how they'd make achappam, which is usually thick, work. But the achappam was out of this world. Thin and crispy and crumbled perfectly to go with the ice cream. It was so good we ended up ordering another one. Zero hesitations recommending this restaurant if you want to try something totally different from the usual "Indian food" joints.
Robinson and his friend Veena were gracious hosts as well. Checking on us and talking to us. We recommended the place to our friends, who are fellow malayalis, and they loved it as well. Can't wait to go back!
Edit-
We went to BPL again today. Our second visit and again, we weren't disappointed. Tried new dishes this time around. The chicken cutlets were fantastic. Exactly how we make it at home. The beef curry, beef ularthiyathu, mean polichathu, fish curry and tapioca, appam, porotta etc were fantastic. The dessert of the day was really nice too. One place we'll definitely keep returning to even if it means we have to make a 2.5 hour round trip! We also had the pleasure of meeting Robinson and his family as well as Veena. We'll definitely send any malayalis we know their way since their food and hospitality...
