Let me just say first…the food was amazing! HOWEVER!!!!! The misfortune is the two ladies that we were served by were above and beyond rude! We are passing through the state of Indiana on a trip and found Big Four on Google Map - so, I called and asked if they do call ahead…the lady paused and said, I don’t understand, we do reservations, I said, Oh, ok…can I reserve a table, she said are dining area is pretty packed, let me see, well, I can probably do 30-45mins from now and if you’re running behind, it would probably work better. ??? So, name in and we make it to the Big Four. We park. I locate the place, walk in to let them know we are here, and the same lady on the phone says, you are early, I said, oh, no worries, (I didn’t expect to be seated immediately) I just wanted to let you know we are here, she said well, you’re gonna have to wait! I said, that’s fine. No worries. Another waitress, she was nice, trying to help, with shoulder length blonde hair said, I’m going to grab some menus and silverware (to the dark brown short haired not nice lady/hostess/phone lady) ( there were two tables opened, one that could seat 6-8 and one that could sit 10-12) and the unfortunate lady I met on the phone and at the hostess desk said across the dining room to her as gathered the items to my right in the dining area… said well, he’s still gonna have to wait! ???? Now, the next lady that ended up being our waitress, (short blonde highlighted hair) unfortunately, on multiple occasions rolled her yes, huffed and puffed, and acted put out and bothered by any questions we had. In fact, the menu said, ask your server about our daily specials. When I asked, she stepped aside, huffed like in aggravation and pointed behind her and said, it’s right there and looked at me like I was an idiot for not knowing this already (first time there and in this part of Indiana). One of my daughters had asked for a sweet tea after we had placed our drink order, this waitress said, you will have to wait until I can get it! ???? I said, thank you and she will take a small sweet tea! She bluntly said, eye roll again, we only have one size ( the menu stated they have multiple sizes and the various prices showed this to be true). Well, a good bit later, the tea arrived. The gentleman that brought our food out, which again looked amazing and tasted even better than it looked, was very nice and pleasant upon each delivery of our 6 person table. Later, when paying the bill, I said I want to pay a tip (bad service or not, we always tip at least 20%) with my bill (they do Apple Pay) she turned the hand held toward me and bluntly said just push a button please and turned her head in disgust! It was unbelievably, horrible experience by the wait staff! I don’t know understand why, unless they only like locals and want no other passer-byers darkening their door! What a shame! Very disappointed and would never recommend knowing the face of this place is two grumpy, moody ladies who make you feel you are intrusive...
Read moreMy family and I are traveling and came to this amazing place for breakfast today. I have Celiac disease and finding good gluten free options can be very difficult. Hotel continental breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. I found this place on my Find GF now app, and wow did it impress!! It’s in a quaint area located in an old train depot station. The energy and vibe of the restaurant is so warm and welcoming. We were greeted right away with smiles and seated. Menu offered a plethora of choices, many choices for GF like waffles, pancakes, and French toast. I had eggs, bacon, fried potatoes (which omg amazing!) and GF french toast which was absolutely delicious!! My daughter had the chicken and waffles and said it was amazing! Her boyfriend had Gouda and Brie omelette and said best he ever had! Hubs had eggs, fried potatoes and bacon with rye toast which he said was soooo good and nice to have the option. Coffee…also amazing!! The restaurant was very clean and had a country urban feel to it. Bathrooms were very clean and well stocked. Also, another thing we loved is that they had some super cute pins and stickers that represented LBGTQ+. In the bathrooms there were printed signs that offered help for anyone who may be in an unsafe and/or abusive situation. They also use paper straws which is a small and meaningful way to help our environment along with wildlife and sea life. Little things make a big impact! All these things add up to an amazing experience! One that we were proud to spend our money and time at. If you’re near Batesville, and looking for a great place for breakfast or lunch, I highly recommend...
Read moreWe experienced the worst service (and I was in the Army). We recently attended a funeral. There were several past co workers that we had not seen in several years. We wanted to meet for drinks and conversation. In total, there were about 11 people. When we arrived, we were told we could not sit with the group. After a lot of huffing, puffing and eye rolling, we were allowed to sit with the group. The cafe was not crowded and we did not impact any traffic flow for servers or safety. A second server arrived to take orders. Having never been there, I order two drinks not on the menu. I asked for a list, and was told to go read the chalk board. This generated a lot of eye rolling and agitation. I decided on a beer, and then was brought the wrong beer. I did drink it (to not cause anymore issues). Initially we did not order food. After a few minutes, my wife decided she would like food. The same server asked, what do you want. Again, never having been there a menu request should not have sent her into a fit. Again, stomping, eye rolling, obviously wishing we would leave. A sandwich and fries were selected. The cafe ran out of fries and brought her potato wedges. Which is fine, but a notification of the change would have been nice. Just showing up with an executive decision isn't right.
We paid, and I counted out the exact change down to the penny. I know that makes me a jerk, but I made my point. A friend was charged 20 bucks for 2 cokes and 1 beer. The bill should have been 12 dollars. After some haggling and server frustration it was corrected.
I will...
