ATMOSPHERE: It's a small local bakery that garners attention yearly on the news during lent for its cherry thing-a-ling. Due to the size, they only allowed 10 people in at a time. I first saw the covering of this bakery on the news last year, but I didn't get a chance to make the journey. This year, after seeing it on the news again, I did. The line was semi-long and moved a long but did stall a little after a while. I arrived just after 6:30 am and entered the store after 7am. . It was cold out, too. FOOD: Is it worth the hype? I think so. I only purchased one box (a dozen for $20) because I didn't know what to expect. I didn't taste it until I returned home after my 50-minute commute. I enjoyed it. It's not too sweet. The portion serving is the right size for me, too. The texture is soft, and every once in a while, you bite into a cherry. If the commute wasn't 50 minutes, I would probably return for another box at my son's request. In the meantime, God willing, I will return next year and will purchase more than one box. SERVICE: The cashier was polite, kept a smile on her face, and was efficient. The person who gave me my order could have provided a plastic bag to place my box in. They had a ton that she had just separated. I almost lost my handle on the box. Thankfully, I didn't, but if I had and the box was in the plastic bag, It would have at least worked...
Read moreI had schmidt bakery do my wedding cake and it was horrible! It was a simple 3 layer square cake with just icing no fondant. I even provided a picture the day of ordering. The cake looked like an amateurs first attempt at a cake. The layers hung off each layer, the cake layers could be seen thru the icing and icing pearls were on the wrong part of each layer. I contacted the owner and she said she had talked to the cake coordinator and well basically she made excuse after excuse for every error. Funny there were 3 other people with me the day I ordered and all 3 said no suggestions were made after we showed the coordinator the picture and she said she could make the same cake and make it look good and the same without the fondant. She would also draw with icing the double hearts that were on it. Those were crudely made out of fondant appearing to be made by a child! I advise don't have them make ur cake and if you ignore this warning and do, record your first meeting so you can play it back to them when you don't get the cake you want, because they will NOT...
Read moreThought I would have written a review here one ofthe past several years we've been here. Now that I have a few hot thing-a-lings in my tummy I'll write a review.
Heard about the cherry thing-a-lings 5-6 years ago. Cherry is by far my favorite fruit for deserts and was able to convince my fam to go on a pilgrimage with me here. We've been back every year since. We've tried other stuff, all good, and gotten some honey, shirts, and other stuff here, but the cherry thing-a-lings are the best. Like a cherry+ fritter+, and more. Definitely will continue the yearly tripfor the foreseeable future. Thank you Clem, Bertie, and the entire Schmidt family for starting & continuing this wonderful tradition. And thank you Clem for hanging out with the crowd...
