I visited this establishment on Sunday July 21, 2024 around 1800 hours after having been on the road for 10 hours. Me and my wife travel back and forth to Ga and this has been our go to spot for almost 6 years when coming back. This is the first trip that my service animal, 1 year old Golden Retriever now fully trained in PTSD and other disorders, has traveled with us due to having still been in training. My dog also wears a vest with her Service Animal Registration Card showing which I'm not required to do. We walked in the door and asked about sitting upstairs to which we were told to go ahead. Zero questions or concern shown to my dog. Once upstairs we stood looking for a table. As we sat down I could hear two servers on the far side of the seating area talking and making comments about my dog. The way she was standing, her looking around, not laying at my feet, etc... This was all being said loud enough for me to hear as well as everyone else around me and between us, causing those people to turn and look at me and wife. I immediately began showing signs of stress to which my dog alerted too causing her to pace between my wife and I. She sits between my feet and leans on my leg majority of the time and doesn't lay down. We ordered drinks, sweet tea, and an appetizer. We finished our appetizer and had gotten refills on our drinks when an employee, did not identify himself as such, approached our table and asked to pet my dog. I told him no. He then began asking questions, is your dog working, is it a service animal, what sex is it, and so on. Then he began telling me about his own dogs at home. As he walked away I noticed the rag hanging from his back pocket and told my wife he was an employee. She advised that he went behind the bar. At this time I told my wife to get the check. We paid and I tipped our server, young guy, who was the only positive part of this stop. I had to go outside while my wife went to the restroom because I could no longer sit there. To say that this was pathetic on the part of the restaurant and management would be an understatement. The fact that there was a dog in a basket at the table behind us that was barking and nothing being said makes it that much worse. I know that my few times a year means nothing to this business, but I hope that this review does. One of the guest near us said he was sorry for them as he could hear and saw what they were doing and later reached to me. I know that animals in a restaurant can be taxing which is why we typically try to sit outside or on balconies even though it isn't required. If this place has an issue with this then they should be asking the state approved questions at the door and not wait for people to sit down and get half way through their meal before trying to play games. And servers certainly shouldn't be talking badly about guest at an audible level to where other...

I was extremely disappointed in this restaurant. I called weeks ago to make sure that they would have brunch on the Saturday morning before Mother's Day and the hostess said yes. That was the only reason I went here with my family. After waiting in a line for 45 minutes to get seated, I was told that they were not doing brunch. HUGE disappointment and false advertisement. The bottom level of the restaurant smelled terrible from the moment you walked in, so I would definitely NOT recommend sitting down there unless you're okay with smelling urine, vomit, and rotting garbage since that was the overwhelming smells on the first floor. As for the second floor, it's absolutely beautiful and was the only thing I actually enjoyed about this restaurant. The waitress was very unattentive and did not refill any of the glasses of water at my table at all throughout our three hours there. Being in Louisiana and during the hotter months at that, you would think that waiters would pay attention to empty glasses of water and customers asking for some. However, she failed to ever bring any waters. I ordered a turkey sandwich with avocado, Swiss cheese, and substituted regular fries for sweet potato fries. When I got my meal almost an hour later, there was no avocados, no cheese, and regular fries instead of the sweet potato fries I ordered. I tried flagging down the waitress to have at least the fries changed, but she never approached the table again until the end of the meal when she quickly dropped off the bill. She overcharged my plate alone by $10 since I did not get the add on and substitutions I asked for, yet she refused to change it when I asked about it. The sandwich nor the fries were appetizing in the slightest either especially since the sandwich was advertised as HOT and was ice cold when it arrived as well as the fries. There is also no women's restroom, which I found to be very odd... Only a men's restroom and a family restroom. Very, very unhappy with this restaurant and I would not go back unless it was to socialize on the rooftop (but not waste...

Everything from start yo finish was just a bad experience. The girl at the front didn't even look at us to sit us, she was just going through the motions. Then we order and they bring out appetizers and main meals at the same time on a small table top. The oysters were NOT good. They were not cleaned well. They weren't shucked right, shell was all over the meat, they still tested dirty, they were warm because they weren't served over ice, and you could taste the old/dirty water. Anyone who has recommended this place for oysters has immediately lost credibility with me. I've had them all over the world and this was the 2nd to the worst place I've had them. Had to ask for the oyster fork and accompanying condiments. We were told they didn't have that at the establishment by the girl behind the bar who was just really unpleasant to deal with. Turns out they did have it. Then, we had to rush to eat because plates were hanging off the table due to the oversized tray and oversized plates compared to food portion sizes. The salad was the only thing plated correctly and the best item of all the dishes. A regular caesar sald the best item... think about that for a second. Then the main meals weren't even warm. Between the unfriendly service, poor quality of food prep, poor platting, and grungy atmosphere I wouldn't recommend this location. The other location far exceeds this one in all areas. They just rely on the brand reputation for customers not skill or service. It's that simple. They also have a huge hole in their parking lot that's not safe for vehicles and not accessibility friendly. The tea and the caesar salad were the only take aways worth mentioning. Worst part is the prices are out of line with the experience and product. Even though I tipped roughly 25% out of habit, this place is a prime example of why tipping culture needs to end. It wad well...

We are from Washington state here visiting and trying the local food. We were suggested Chimes specifically the one by LSU. We loved all the wall decor and stained glass! Our waitress was amazing, thorough and gave great suggestions. We got fried mozzarella and blackened alligator to start. Crispy, flavorful and amazingly cheese mozzarella balls. The alligator was very salty but well balanced with the Cajun and horseradish mayo. I ordered the crab and Brie soup which was rich, creamy, and well seasoned with a lovely crab and corn flavor. My boyfriend ordered bbq bacon wrapped shrimp and jambalaya with a side of Mac and cheese. The shrimp were tangy and smokey with perfectly cooked shrimp. The jambalaya was full of flavor with sausage, shrimp, and pork, a nice kick of spice and well cooked rice. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy making it a little greasy but decadent and delicious. My boyfriend’s grandpa ordered the seafood lasagna and it was amazing! Great seafood flavor, creamy rich sauce, perfect noodles. Absolutely the best dish we’ve tried so far. He was skeptical but ended up eating over half of the large portion. I also ended up ordering 2 peanut butter sugar cookie martinis, a sweet, strong and phenomenal dessert drink. My boyfriend ordered the chimes tea which he said was dangerously delicious with a refreshing and lemony taste. We also ordered the bread pudding to go which is big enough for 2 smelled amazing and has a yummy nutty caramel sauce for the top. Would definitely recommend and return!

Anytime I travel through Louisiana, I always stop here. This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Baton Rouge! I took my family there for the first time and they enjoyed it as well. Service was great, as our server and other waitstaff were quick and attentive. The boudin balls were a great appetizer and came out quick hot. Everyone enjoyed their food. We ordered the fried catfish plate, the half and half, a grilled chicken salad, a shrimp po-boy, a kids grilled cheese and my favorite: crawfish etouffee with a side of red beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their food, especially my niece and nephew, who are the pickiest eaters of the group. The other adults wanted to try some of my etouffee, so I shared with them and they all enjoyed it as well. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing after a long day's drive, and the music selection was great the entire night. I'm glad my family enjoyed their experience as well, and we can't wait to return again, hopefully sooner than later. The Chimes always makes me happy, and it always pains my heart just a little whenever it's time to leave. That's how you know this is a great place to eat for everyone!

If you’re near LSU’s North Gates and need good grub and a cold beer, let me tell you about The Chimes— not just a bar, but an institution. This place is where the college crowd and Cajun cooking come together for a dang good time. From the jump, the energy hits you—students, alumni, and even a few professors who decided office hours can wait. Everyone’s kin after a couple of drinks, and by the end of the night, you’ll be hollerin’ “Geaux Tigers” with strangers like lifelong friends. The menu? Pure Louisiana gold. Gumbo that’ll make you wanna call your momma, Red Beans and Rice packed with flavor, Everything here is Seasoned just right, cooked with lov, if you leave hungry, that’s on you. The Chimes has more beers than you can shake a stick at— craft brews, classic lagers, even stuff you can’t pronounce. Whether you’re a beer snob or a Bud Light loyalist, they got something to wet your whistle. Bottom line—if you’re hungry, thirsty, or just in need of a good time, The Chimes will do you right. One visit, and you’ll get why this place is as legendary as a tall tale at a Southern family reunion—except every word of it’s true.
