Waka House — Restaurant in Baton Rouge

I have been frequenting Waka House for the past 10 years, first at the Sherwood location and for the past 6 years at the Highland location. It was one of my go-to's, up until recently when I noticed a decline in the quality of their food. Tonight, I went in to pickup an order (all food that I have had in the past)...only to find the chef fussing at his sous chef over the amount of sashimi that was provided to me. Not only was it uncomfortable for me to be sitting there able to hear everything that was said, but I was also extremely disappointed when I got home and realized what had been provided to me. The sashimi salad didn't have the fruit or sauce that it is supposed to have AND it was clear to me that the chef decided to toss some of it so that I wasn't getting more than my $10 worth. The hamachimaki roll appeared to have been attempted to be cut into smaller pieces after the fact. Not sure if this is a fluke...but as someone who has been a loyal customer for so many years, I felt like something...

The only thing that really keeps me going back to Waka House on Highland is the karadynamite roll. Otherwise, the customer service is repeatedly awful. The wait staff is not only unfriendly, but also flat out rude. Sometimes the server slams your stuff down and brings you the bill before even asking if you need or want anything else. They aren't even polite when they have to ask you a question. They say "hey! Lady Do you want wasabi?" and don't ask you the question politely. Today was my final straw... I went in to pick up a takeout order. They not only did not greet me, they started yelling in their foreign language at each other and I didn't even know what to do... was my food ready? Did they not make my order? For about 5 minutes they did not even acknowledge me or communicate that something was wrong. I've been here a few times,and the food is usually good and fair priced. Came for lunch today and it took forever, waited at least 30 minutes for a single roll. The young man working here is also quite rude...decent little spot but not a fan of this guy. Also, no music so it's uncomfortably quiet! Had to edit this to add, WORST SERVICE EVER. THIS GUY IS SO RUDE!!!!! He tossed our ticket on the table,and gave me a Styrofoam box for my ramen. Didn't seem to care if we wanted our tickets separate...
