I had been wanting to come to Toledo for a long time. Then, last year, it made it onto the Michelin Guide. That tore it for me. I had to go. So we made reservations one night after a long day at the parks. The ambiance was second-to-none. Really one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever been inside of.
The radiating, soft, warm, red-ish light encompassing the entire dining. The stark contrast of the ulta-bright LED's of their very impressive wine cellar. The large trees dotting the floor with branches that went all the way up to the ceiling. The panoramic windows that were so high off the ground that I'm pretty sure you could see fireworks from every Disney park. It was just beautiful.
Getting to the food, we ordered the Chef's Signature Dinner for Two, which included the Flight of Four Pintxos, The Spaniard, the Chuleton Bone-In Rib-Eye, and The Toledo Tapas Bar Dessert. A very cool sounding option for us.
We also foolishly didn't know if that was gonna be enough food, so we started off with an order of the classic Pan con Tomate (Crushed Tomato, Garlic, Olive Oil and Charred Bread). Redonkulous. Perfectly rustic roughly cut bread, haphazardly crushed tomatoes, sporadic seasoning, all charred to perfection. Can't get over how much I loved this.
The Four Pintxos were a very fun little assortment of traditional Spanish tapas. Everything tasted really high-end, but splitting each of them into two bites was a little bit of a pain.
The Spaniard made up for that, though. Amazing meats that had deep deep flavor. Three cheeses that actually tasted different from one another, unlike some places' offerings. And plenty of carb options for mixing and matching. This one was a lot of fun.
Then it was time for the main event. The Chuleton. They got a really good cook on the rib-eye, and the crust on the outside was top notch. The only thing was that this particular cut had a ton of fat that was juuust not rendered enough. If you're fat-averse, makes sure to tell your server beforehand. I didn't mind, really, but just a note.
The sides of the Patatas Bravas and the Brussels Sprouts were absolutely banging. Crispy, oily, indulgent. There's not a lot of relief from the fat in Spanish cuisine.
Then came one of the funnest desserts I've ever had in my life, 'The Toledo Tapas Bar Dessert'. This one bar of chocolate had five little dollops of different flavored creams on top, giving you five unique little dessert bites in one dessert. Really fun.
Overall, a place like this usually gets five stars from me. I just could not overlook the fact that this sharable menu came with the most awkward bites of food to possible split into two individual bites. It was not fun, and I would have just spent more money for real sized apps. Also, the steak was delicious, but the unrendered fat was really an...
ย ย ย Read moreBeautiful location on the new Coronado high rise tower, with well appointed decor that sets the tone for the tapas experience. Service was friendly from check in with Carolyn to our server. We were a large party of 8 and were sat in the Sunset Room - beautiful, with stunning views of the resort and would be lovely for small meetings or private dinner experiences. We appreciated it with our three kids! However, the food and menu is a mixed bag and needs some improvement so only three stars overall - though, some dishes were great, there was a lot to be desired in the flavor department on others.
The tapas menu itself is limited. We tried a few Pinxtos to introduce my older son to the concept of Tapas. He enjoyed the Spanish potato omelet and we enjoyed the Tuna.
Appetizers were a hit. The cheese plate for two was shared by three of us and had a nice mix of charcuterie and Spanish cheese. The Heirloom tomato salad had a great deal of flavor and was a nice light pre dinner option. We also tried the Tomato Bread and it was also good.
For dinner, a friend and I opted to try a few of the Cazuelas. Hands down, the seared octopus with lentils wins the entire menu. Next up, the rioja chorizo - lots of flavor and juice to soak up with the toasted crostini. The garlic shrimp was a HUGE disappointment with zero flavor in either the shrimp or the broth. Iโm not sure how this dish even made it out of testing or the kitchen to be honest.
As for entrees - both were a disappointment. The braised chicken lacked serious flavor and was dry; two members of our party ordered this dish. One refused to eat it and the restaurant was kind enough to comp the meal. The Hanger Steak was cooked well, but also lacked any sort of season and was very bland, even with the accompaniment side dishes.
The kids menu is great, especially if you have adventurous eaters. My son loved the meatballs and Spanish rice. My daughter ate the steak in just a few bites and the Mac and cheese side dish was so good, in fact BETTER than some of our main meals!
Dessert was delicious, but the portion for the cost - even for a higher end restaurant and tapas joint - was an insult. Two smears (maybe a tablespoon and a half if I was lucky - in fact, that might be generous estimate on my behalf) of a chocolate avocado mousse and a melon ball size sorbet for 10 bucks - meh. Flavors, however, were excellent. Same with the kids strawberry mousse, except it wasnโt the same price.
Bottom line, there are better places to eat on Disney property. Tapas were good, but Jaleo probably is a better bet for flavor, an expanded menu and tapas experience if thatโs...
ย ย ย Read moreWow! Wow! Wow! This word came out of my mouth many times during this dinner experience. Itโs a very elegant, but casual high end restaurant atmosphere at the top of the gran Destino tower at Coronado springs. The views from the 16th floor are unmatched as you look out across not just Disney world, but much of central Florida can be seen from atop the trees. Itโs a great way to see how much green still exists amidst all of our growth here. Our waiter was on spot. We went with everything he recommended and we were extremely happy that we did. He suggested the dinner for two where you get to choose your appetizer, entree, and dessert from the selected options for a much more discounted price. (Even though itโs still quite expensive). We got the charcuterie board along with a sampling of four other menu appetizer options. The charcuterie was as good as Iโve ever had. The blue cheese paired with the insanely fresh olives was my favorite but the 3 year cured ham was as delicious as you will ever find on any board. We opted for the steak rather than the paella as recommended by our waiter. We ordered it medium and it was perfectly cooked, melted in our mouths, not too much fat, and plenty for both of us. I really believe it was the best ribeye that Iโve ever had. Thick and soft, I couldnโt stop eating it. Along with the steak, we ordered brussel sprouts, which we usually wouldnโt order, but they were once again recommended by our waiter. And mashed potatoes that were served in a pool of buttery sauce. The sprouts were incredible. They are flash fried so theyโre crispy outside but have a slight amount of green left inside so theyโre soft and a bit chewy. I ate so many. The potatoes were divine and creamy delicious. Dessert was a cheesecake that had a couple different types of crรจme served on the sides and some fresh fruit. It was a very well made cheesecake. Not too sweet and soggy. The combination of everything on the plate made it a wonderful finish to a fantastic meal. The price is a bit steep when you see it on the menu but in reality, for what youโre going to experience and for the amazing flavors that you will taste, itโs worth every penny. The dinner for two at the time of our visit was $155 without drinks. But we left telling ourselves that we would come back again without question. Honestly one of the best meals weโve ever had on Disney property. I also like the fact that it is casual or upscale. Itโs come as you are or you can have a nice date or whatever. You can bring children, grandparents, out of towners, or anyone and youโd feel comfortable no matter what. We will be back...
