The Shack — Restaurant in Beach Haven

Placed a decent sized order. Called in to tell them the Wedge salad was missing bacon and dressing (two of the four ingredients). The response was the kitchen was still prepping it when we picked it up. I’m not sure why we weren’t told things were missing. I was told I could come back for the missing items. When I asked for a refund because I couldn’t leave six kids to go back I was told I had to go back for a refund. Either way, I had to go back. When I asked to speak to the manager, I overhead them speaking in a very derogatory manor about me in Spanish, calling me a vulgar name, assuming I didn’t speak or understand, or hear them. They have since denied claiming they watched their security footage (doubtful as I figured out how to get over there within ten minutes because I was that shocked and wanted to see who was vulgar enough to talk about a customer like that). I asked to review it myself just to call their bluff, which I was told absolutely not. Prior to leaving this review I did ask to speak to the owner giving him a chance to discuss this with his employees rather than positing a review. Apparently the manager and owner are the same person according to the manager. Food was mediocre. Customer service, disgraceful. Read the reviews....

Yum! 5 star yum!! Mussels in red sauce so good I saved the extra sauce and had it on pasta with dinner tonight! Fish tacos were great too! Can’t wait to tell my friend who is a big fish taco fan! Hubby enjoyed his chicken parm too. I ate the huge salad that came with his dinner—again over 2 nights. And it was lovely fresh mixed greens not boring iceberg or romaine! Definitely worth the price! (Especially compared to some of the more expensive meals we’ve had this vacation.). Speedy takeout too! Are they a Mexican, Italian, American restaurant or all of the above? Who cares! 9/2023 Hope it lets me edit…we are back again. Dine in not takeout. Wonderful FRIENDLY waitress Nashly patiently explained what was in EVERY Mexican special on the board!!! Went with Tacos Dorados d Pollo and they were GREAT! JUST the right heat to be tasty vs painful. Generous portion! And it is definitely something I would not make at home. My husband liked his chicken parmigiana (except he found the sauce a little spicy. I ate his big salad which was very good, fresh ingredients.). Service was quick and very attentive. Prices are reasonable. Why is this place not more crowded?!?! I’m not keeping...

I am glad I came back to The Shack. I heard there was a new owner who made changes. My friend said in passing to try it again, that I’d like it.

So, I did, and he was right.

It was REALLY good and they made a bunch of changes just like he said.

It was super clean and really comfortable. The interior looked completely upgraded. New coats of paint. Pictures on the walls and most importantly, an updated menu.

The specialty for the new owners are crepes and if you like crepes you just found your new go-to breakfast nook. I had the blueberry and it was … ugh … just … so … good! They have a list of fruit drinks now, too, that are all squeezed fresh. I had the passionfruit, my partner the orange, and they were seriously refreshing. Service was solid, too. Young kids who hustled and couldn’t have been more polite. Really nice kids.

I couldn’t have left there happier. Honestly, I’m so glad I gave it another shot. That’s the reason I’m posting this so others will too. The changes they made are definitely worth another trip. (Again, seriously, the...
