Lackluster TexMex experience: As someone in the Hispanic community this restaurant is no diamond in the rough in terms of food and decor. Here’s my experience from start to finish: Upon entering the host was kind and inviting, given it was lunchtime it was somewhat packed all things considered and seating was fairly quick. We were served some appetizer chips and dip within 5 minutes of taking a seat which is nice. Drink variety is pretty standard with a decent sized selection of soft drinks, teas and alcoholic beverages. After drink selection our eyes wondered the menu for about 10 minutes and first impressions after a year of not going, the menu design is still appealing but the food available, not so much. Standard enchiladas, quesadillas, yknow the works. I ordered the Chicken Padilla plate which consisted of a charbroiled chicken breast with Monterrey jack cheese mixed with tomatoes and jalapeños. It is also accompanied with sides such as rice, guac and refried beans which was visually did not sound that bad. While it pleased the eye, the taste was mediocre at best, the chicken was nice and tender but it’s taste was masked by the cheese which I assumed was it’s intention, rice, beans and guac are pretty standard and hard to mess up so good on them for that. After we ate we received the bill and headed out.
For those who want the short version of this review: service is decent, food is not spectacular and the bill was relatively fair. While others might praise it for its good food, I wouldn’t make this place my go to for...
Read moreI was having lunch with a group of about 12 to 14 friends. One friend who had tacos found a bug in her tacos. The waiter brought her two new tacos. Unfortunately, I had tacos as well. I inspected them thoroughly and then took a bite, but knowing about the bugs, I just couldn't eat them. When I put my taco down, a bug comes crawling out. I was disgusted! They wanted to make me more tacos or even another food on the house this time. I just wanted my ticket, which I still had to pay for (drink and my queso). I was shocked that this was not handled in any other way. I will not be eating at this establishment again. Now, for a positive, they did make a heck of a top shelf strawberry daiquiri for me. But a lot of good that did once I had seen the bug. There were multiple people in our group who had seen this, and I feel it is my due diligence to let...
Read moreIt has been many years since we have eaten at Diez de Mayo Restaurant and today we finally got to town when they were open for lunch. Inside the dining area are these super bright LED rope lights on the ceiling that really brighten up the restaurant—almost too bright for me! Waitstaff was very attentive and the service was good. Chips were kinda stale. Salsa was warm (with heat—not spice) which I like. I had a chile relleno dinner plate and spouse had fajita enchiladas. Food was ok, at best… not as we remembered. We didn’t order any alcoholic beverages and still paid $40 FOR LUNCH! Yes, we saw the prices on the menu and knew what the cost would be. I don’t mind paying for a good meal, but this visit was extremely...
